Either way, while I liked MoB on the first couple of listens, its a grower, and now I think it's fucking amazing  :tup

Yeah, definitely. It's completely revived my love for DT tbh. Their best song since Breaking All Illusions. Can't wait to get my hands on the album.  :hefdaddy

I love the odd time signature after the first chorus. It's almost dissonant, which is so different it's killer.

The cool thing is, that's actually 4/4 the whole way through, but in "Never leave a man behind", they subdivide it differently. Not sure what the musical term for it is, but the entire verse is in 4/4.
It's Metric Modulation, CMIIW  ;D
Since Mangini era, you can hear a lot of  this metric modulation. And yes, it just like the tempo of the song suddenly change
In Outro Moment of Betrayal (outro that used in trailer) you can hear this metric modulation again. It's still 4/4 with Original tempo but we feel like the tempo is suddenly change  :D

You can hear this also in Illumination Theory, Surrender to Reason and Behind the Veil. :)

Who gets a "Final Fantasy" feel at 3:20 of MoB?

I didn't, and I'm a Final Fantasy fanatic. I heard it immediately in Bridges in the Sky, for instance.

JRuless

Great song. For me it beats almost everything back to 8V . I love the rythm and groove of the verses..fairly enough Mangini isn't the big groover as Mike was, but he's a brutal nailer. Can't wait to hear this live in the beautiful Carre in Amsterdam in less than a month!  :metal

Fritzinger

Mangini CAN groove, for example the "what is right and what is wrong " section in On The Backs Of Angels.

Am I the only one who always thinks "Transatlantic" when "TA" is written by somebody?

You're not alone  :lol

TheOutlawXanadu

I loved TGOM, but am not digging MOB for some reason. Oh, well. I'm still expecting nothing less than an awesome album.

Zydar

Can't get the chorus of Moment Of Betrayal out of my head.

I'm losing time while waiting on this album so anxiously...I need to surrender to reason and just put it out of my mind for awhile.

I wish people would write out the whole title. If you're on phone it's a pain I know but on desktop with a full keyboard it takes like 2 seconds.

I knew I was not the only one in thinking this!

We must not be loosing faythe that this album will be astonishing! As I am seeing this, it's only a matter of time until we will be finally free, although those six days will feel like a dance of eternity to me.

Careful with your releases.

turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

i'm more bothered that he has Awake and I&W switched
It's an alternate timeline, in which Kevin Moore fell in love with the magazine girl, wrote Space-Dye Vest for her and the magazine girl fell in love with Kevin (given they released Awake first in this timeline). They became a happy couple and Kevin wrote beautiful songs like Surrounded and Wait for Sleep all inspired in their love.

Suddenly, Kevin realised the girl had AIDS and John Myung wrote Learning to Live to help his good friend overcome the bad news. It was a lot for Kevin to handle, so he left the band.

Word.

You forgot A Change Of Seasons, which should be included, if Raw Dog is. What up?

I'm with this guy. FF is one of my top 3 series, and I only thought about it once I read this.  Although, I suppose it could pass off as a Boss Battle Theme.

ErHaO

I did get FF vibes from it too. Though I never really played any modern FF nor do I play the classic games nowadays (I do have some soundtracks that I still listen to), so I felt a 90's FF vibe.

Darkstarshades

I did get FF vibes from it, and agree with Erhao, it's very 90's and something you'd find in FFIX
I also get this same feeling from the Keyboard Octavarium solo, idk why.

Panar

I really hope the digital downloads through RR to become available 3 days earlier like it happened with DT12.

It would be nice, but don't count on it.

Also, it makes sense given Awake is a concept album about Spider-Man. The label didn't want another super hero based album, so they made the band write some 'mature' songs instead.

I've actually been getting the Final Fantasy vibe since when they first announced the concept for this album :lol

DarkLord_Lalinc

The most 'Final Fantasy' DT has ever sounded is during Bridges in the Sky. There's one part that's literally reprising a theme from Final Fantasy VIII.  :lol
