The Act I track listing reminds me of Rick Wakeman's Return To The Center Of The Earth. It was 22 tracks and every other one was narration. There were a couple of good songs in there, Buried Alive with Ozzy and Never Is A Long Long Time with Trevor Rabin.

I got that record. The spoken tracks, even by Patrick Stewart, are totally anticlimatic. You have to program the player (as RW himself sugests in the blooklet) to enjoy the music. Not his best work. Not even close.

Most bands just come out and say "this is our album, it will be released _____, etc."  It must be fun for them to tease us all these months.

This! I am sick of poking the innocent looking NOMAC in the eye every 10 minutes!

I don't get it D:

With this many tracks in Act 1, I don't think an individual track will be more than 7-8 minutes long. Some will be 4-5 mins, and one or more of the "NOMAC" tracks will be shorter than Through My Words.

To me, The Hovering Sojourn sounded like an end-of-act number, whereas Digital Discord doesn't. Is there more to be revealed for Act 1?

I think it's going to be like Ayreon's Theory of Everything (which coincidentally features JR), which is four songs (two per CD) split into several tracks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Theory_of_Everything_(Ayreon_album)

I'm thinking either

1. 20 tracks on each disc

2. 20 tracks on Disc 1 and like 5 - 8 on Disc 2 ( much less anyway )

Wow, seventeen tracks? Maybe that means they'll do Winger cover.

My own speculations:

What if the "Hovering Sojourn" is about the Chosen One who infiltrates a NOMAC and uses it to broadcast his own stirring, forbidden melody? Just like a loudspeaker. That would be his Hovering Sojourn. After all, the NOMACs are huge, there might be some room within their structure. This would also explain the Majesty-shaped chassis, since the NOMACs are'n going to be a negative force forever, they will be hacked by Ravenskill and used against the Empire. This might also explain why the NOMAC is so important and such a recurrent theme: because it's going to play a main role in the story.

"Brother can you hear me" might be a first attempt to communicate via the NOMAC. Obviously, the first person he will try to get in touch with is most likely his brother.

"A life left behind", may just speak for itself. He's on a mission now, and will leave his life behind.

"Ravenskill" and "The Chosen": well, isn't he meant to be the Chosen of this faction? Maybe these tracks will tell us about the faction and about our hero; it may be his past or something about the character in general.

"A Tempting Offer" Let's assume we're getting close to the end of first disk: it's about time for a nice plot twist. The Empire tries to negotiate with him, to corrupt him in order to prevent him from destroying the whole system. Will they try to deceive him? To tell him lies to take him on their side? Or maybe some kind of confession (with some truth in it), to try and destabilize him?

"Digital Discord" might represent the uncertain end of the first disk, to make you eager to know how the story will develop in the future. Strange, disharmonic sounds that spring from him as he fights with himself while seeing things under a new light.

:lol this album had SO better not end on a cliffhanger !!!!!

I gotta say, I'm not surprised they're doing a concept album/rock opera, again. Seems like the next logical step for the band, even through I personally prefer stuff like Awake and 8VM.  I'm really worried about the wank factor on this album. With the last album, it felt like they were finally learning...

Wouldn´t make sense if "Dysthopian Overture" was the 2:nd song, since it´s an overture...
Yeah, it's not like DT have ever done that before or anything.

As a side note, I'm glad all this talk about this rock opera/ 17 tracks sounding like with ayreon the theory of everything made me pick up that album for the first time... I'm really liking it!

Damn.. I'm just at Progressive Waves.. I'm Like.. who is this key/synth player :hefdaddy?? ...  went to wikipedia and mind blow!!!!!!!! Emerson and Rudess!!!

BlackInk

Don't care much for Ayreon's stuff, aside from a few tracks here and there. Hopefully this won't be quite like that.

The album is probably out late January and Act II Probably also has 11 tracks since both boxes are spaced the same.

Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

So there's at least 17 new songs to add to DT the League next year then...

Thoughtspart3

I feel the track titles feel less cheesy than the other stuff so far.  This is seriously epic in scope.  Some of these tracks have to be entirely spoken word, dialogue, or sound effects depicting a scene to bridge the songs.  They obviously can't all be actual songs.  They would have to average 3.6 minutes each if there were 22 tracks.  It is impossible for DT to have songs all be that short!

Glad to see another DTF person who started to appreciate Ayreon. The Theory of Everything is one of my favourite albums ever, despite being released only two years ago. It just connects with me in a way not a lot of albums do.

This:

1. Descent of the Nomacs

I. Dystophian Overture
II. The Gift of Music
III. The Answer
IV. A Better Life
V. Lord Nafaryus
VI. A Savior in the Square
VII. When Your Time Has Come
VIII. Act of Fayte
IX. Three Days

2. The Hovering Sojourn

I. Brother, Can You Hear Me
II. A Life Left Behind
III. Ravenskill
IV. Chosen
V. A Tempting Offer

3. Digital Discord (probably show up some more parts to this song)

Wouldn´t make sense if "Dysthopian Overture" was the 2:nd song, since it´s an overture...

Except that every title has its own assigned number..

1. Descent of the NOMACS (ok with this one)
2. Dystopian Overture (2, not "I")
3. The Gift of Music (3, not "II")
11. The Hovering Sojourn (11, not "2")
17. Digital Discord (17, not "3")

So the tracklist on DT's official page has to be a lie to make right your guess..  ;)

Why are you closing out the possibility of it being fewer tracks with a total of 17 (maybe up to 20 or w/e) movements? There's 0 confirmation on whether these are separate tracks or not.

Well, this is my guess if the Nomac icon that are on songs 1,2,3 Are actually the songs...and the other "track names" are parts in those songs. Assuming they've just listed all the separate tracks/parts. 😊
