Mangini need is own asshard extreme impossible inhuman beyond godlike instrumental like MP's TDOE

IKR!!! I hope we have one of those on this album . . . imagine that precise drumming matched with a techincal instrumental . . . :omg:

Eh, I'd much rather have a melodic instrumental that still rocks, like Erotomania, rather than a technical piece where the melody takes a back seat, like The Dance of Eternity.

Me too, I'd much rather have an instrumental like Stream of Consciousness. I think it might be my favorite song of all time! The main killer riff, the solos, the sounds and the different Crimson/ Di Meola themes are incredible!

I'm hoping for a tambourine solo.

I'm 33, until the age of 25 I used to confuse that word with the one that means the thing you jump and bounce on.

We deserve a trampoline solo!

Thanks for mentioning the actual word, I didn't get that because of my limited English skills.... :D

After a few people having said they wouldn't listen but then did it anyways I am proud to say I still haven't listened  :hat

Am I alone in feeling an awesome Toto vibe in "The Gift Of Music" at 3:23 - 3:37?

I literally hadn't heard of that band until now. Do you have an example of a song, or a moment in a song that sounds like this?

Sorry, I can't really link it to a specific song or moment. That's probably why I called it a vibe. I just immediately thought of Toto when I heard this section. The orchestration, the structure, the tones, that calm yet lively flow... reminded me of something Toto would do in some extended instrumental jam live. I guess it's mostly the phrasing of the guitar and bass line and the guitar tone over the laid back feel of the beat.

Plus you *MUST* have at least heard either "Rosanna" or " Hold The Line " at least in passing...

I'll give those a listen to see if they sound familiar. Thanks :)

EDIT: Ok, I've definitely heard "Hold The Line" before. Recognized it instantly, just didn't know which band performed it. Well, ya learn something new every day  :lol

I'm not sure if its been discussed here much, but IMO the dual guitar/keyboard solo at the very end of The Gift of Music is probably the sound of the NOMACs.

What kind of patch was Ruddess using?  It sounds so good at the very very end of the song. (at the 3:39 mark)

After reading the Rolling Stone article, the creation of the intricate music to match the characters, setting and storyline makes me think it would have been too much burden to add a documentary/DVD companion to the release.  DT's done that before.  This package and presentation (cards, maps scripts) is new, so let's enjoy that.

I disagree here.  I would rather have an 60-90 min documentary, than a box w cards and maps. Plus I think 200 for the box set is outrageous.  I mean what am I going to do with the cards and shit, display them a la Steve Carrrell in the 40-yo virgin? Next we'll be getting action figures of the characters.

I would take a box set w apparel and documentary over cards and maps any day.

I just heard that part and I know what you mean. I've always liked that progressive side of Toto. It's nice to hear it in this song.
I hope this theme is repeated throughout the album. Maybe it could be the main theme for some other song. Heaven's Cove maybe?

Was that really on San Andreas? I played the fuck out of that game but I don't recall hearing that one. Anyway, I know this song from "That 70's Show" when Fez played it, incredible :lol

You know what? They need to do a Nomac-shaped drone on which you can download and play music.

Can anyone point out a section in Dream Theater song that has a simultaneous, dualing solo section like the end of TGOM?

Jordan's keyboard sound, mixed with the way they are playing, conjures images (and words) in my mind of an epic music battle between a NOMAC and real musician as they fly over the city.

Epic teaser that really leaves you wanting more!  To me, the snare sounds like I&W...better than last time for sure (felt distracting to me on DT12). Overall mix feels much more open than DT12.  My favorite part is when the dirty organ comes out to play, leading into the orchestra that slowly creeps into the guitar riff. :metal  Quality stuff!  Choir sounds great as well.  Also have mention I love Myung on this song! Pretty clean and in your face bass sound.

;D

Wow didn't spot that, hadn't had the time to scroll through the pages, sorry.

Fired from what?

Well, I see a new, experimented conductor is working with DT this time.
Was Eren "Hugh Syme'd"?  :lol :lol
(Jk of course)

You can't be fired from a job you don't have. I don't see the big deal in DT using other people for stuff like this. Every project is different, and whether you reuse some people or not is not indicative of their capabilities - it's just indicative that the direction you want to pull in is might require other experiences and qualifications.

Which is why I stated "Hugh Syme'd"
They just didn't hire them and that's it.
