Roadrunner Records' group Dream Theater has announced new tour dates for a momentous European headline run which is set to kickoff February 18th at the Palladium in London, England. The winter run will see the prog-titans delivering a one-of-a-kind set in which they will be debuting their forthcoming album live in its entirety. The unique tour is set to make stops at prestigious theaters around Europe including Amsterdam's Carre Theater, Oslo's Konserthus, Stockholm's Cirkus, Paris' Palais des Congres and Milan's Teatro Degli Arcimboldi with additional dates to be announced (see attached itinerary). The European tour comes in anticipation of Dream Theater's forthcoming album which is expected to arrive in early 2016. The new material will follow 2013's worldwide smash album "DREAM THEATER," which earned a second Grammy nomination for the band, topping Billboard's "Hard Rock Albums" while simultaneously entering at #7 on the Billboard 200. 99% sure it will be a looooong concept!

Lazlow Panaflex

This is great news!  I simply must get to the London show!

Any details on how to get into the Presale?  Do we need to sign up somewheres?

Tim van Duijn

New album is called: The Astonishing

I'm hoping for Croatia tour date. They were there with DT12 and show was well attended, it would be sin to skip us and make us wait another eternity again :P
I'm glad we got some news at last, surely more of them will come soon :metal

The Curious Orange

I imagine the pre-sale will be via the DT website like it was for the last tour.

Yeah I'd say you're right.  I'm just panicking. Perfectly normal behaviour  :eek

I may start hitting F5 on the DT Tours page very soon ha!

Jinx

Looking forward to this! I'm guessing this will be the only tour to see the album in its entirety and that if they do a 2nd leg there will be more back catalogue from them

Train of Naught

I'm kinda sceptic about buying a ticket knowing that the only thing they'll play is an entire album I haven't heard a single note of, but I guess if they're playing it in its entirety right away they must be extremely excited about it themselves?

Kotowboy

So the new album will be out around the same time i'm guessing.

I hope a little bit sooner as the band is going to play the whole thing live and people need to get a chance to hear it before the shows.

BlobVanDam

That's even more solid evidence that this is some kind of concept album.

Would it possibly count as evidence against a double album? I can't imagine playing a double album live at every show, at the expense of much else. I know they played SFAM live as a whole, but that was a single album.

They play in theaters rather than venues for a one of a kind set? as I suggested earlier, I think more and more that this album may have an orchestra, and they will use it live.

JP said that "it took them longer and you'll see why"... when did they ever have to explain delays for the massive amount of music they've written? they wrote ToT in 3 weeks, they wrote 100 minutes of music for Six Degrees, every other album has a 20 minutes epic, when did they ever tell in the past "it took us longer to do it 'because we had to write a 24 minutes song with a lot of references thrown in"... also considering they said they did something never did before (at least for them), the orchestra could be the reason behind it.

Viking of the Sagas

The increase in production value is the reason for why it takes the band longer to produce albums. The orchestra could be a part of this, I hope it will at least.

I want to make it to the Stockholm show but honestly I doubt it I will have capacities to travel there...

Kotowboy

Not sure how I feel about an entire album with an orchestra. I can just think of shit like Evanessence or that kind of European metal with strings on every song.

It can work if it's done well. DT12 tells me they couldn't do it well.

It doesn't say anything about using an orchestra does it though?

Welcome to DTF - Extrapolating something from nothing since 2007. :lol

RoeDent

I'm guessing that the album will be released a short time before the tour starts. 18th Feb is a Thursday, and as albums are released on Fridays now, I'll guess it's coming out on February 12th. Weekend of promo interviews, possibly in-store signings, then a few days to get ready for the first show.

The Hairy Man

Hmm, as others have touched on, I usually need time for music to grow on me. Not sure how keen I am going to a gig blind as it were. It could all sail right over my head.

Certainly not heading down to London for something I've not heard anything of - could you imagine spending all the cash and they play something like *insert least favourite DT album here*?? You would be mighty pissed off!

They can come to Scotland then I might consider it.

I'm pretty optimistic as usual.

"In the end of January, the american prog metal band Dream Theater will release their new album "The Astonishing". This will be an extraordinary experience in an intimate setting, with visuals".

Length: 2hours 40 minutes with pause.

emtee

Ok. Their marketing got me.

I'm officially excited.

AboutToCrash

1. It HAS to be a concept album, that's pretty obvious by now
2. They must be pretty damn confident in the new album
3. Tour announced so there's bound to be more solid news soon regarding release

Tons of coordination and rehearsals required for something like this. Everyone involved on the whole DT team will have to bring
their A game every night. They must kill all the Gremlins before the tour

darkshade

Sweet news. I can only hope the new album is loads better than DT12.

Oh, this is getting good.  :omg:

Seriously! I need to get to London.   :metal

Zydar

Sweet, we have some actual news.

Paintbox

I think I wouldn't like an album with an orchestra either, and it would not even be an entirely new thing for DT. Score was a special event and the orchestra fit very well, but in the album I want to hear DT and only them...
They did not send anything by email, did they?

I didn't get anything via email, yet.

BlobVanDam

No email yet. I expect that when we actually get an email, it will coincide with a change of the official site, and possibly a single release, or some official announcement on the album title and artwork.

BelichickFan

Nice to get news but. . . .  United States ???

emtee

I ASSume they will play some older material at the end of the 2nd set but no clue how much. Sure would seem a logical guess that
it's a full on double album.

I'd say first set for the new album, second set for older material. Given the length of a DT show, that would probably work out quite nicely.
