Who's side did you take?

The Great Northern Empire
Ravenskill Rebel Militia

Fahrenheit 451 was about banned books, this will probably be about banned music. The nomacs control everyone's life keeping them "safe" (read: enslaved) and the rebels wants to bring music back to people's lives.

It's Fahrenheit 451 meets Star Wars meets The Matrix meets 2112 meets DREAM THEATER.  :coolio

I also wonder what a "NOMAC" is and whether or not it's the weird mechanical ball thing on the poster?

Well the picture file for the icon on the sign up page is called nomac so.......

"Arhys, Son of Marhys" stop
"Endless Isleland" no that's not how english works
"we have biohacked the receivers implanted into the flesh so many generations ago, jamming the cacophonous lull of the NOMACS for however much longer our primitive tech will abide" omg why
"a humble servant with the innate ability to break the shackles of the mind and heart we must've forgotten how to perceive" inspirational ballad of the year
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

From Great Northern:
- "...Our thriving metropolis..."

nuggetz

AKA Metropolis Pt. 3 confirmed

I was about to post  that. Nuggetz everywhere.

I also noticed in the Empire it describes the date as being "two thousandth two hundredth eighty-five, A.D.", or 2285 A.D. Cool.

Octavarium 2 confirmed

Also: "this Chosen One is, in fact, my blood, and my brother"

LET ME INTRODUCE...

The Count of Tuscany part 2: Return of The BRUTHA more likely  :rollin

The premise sounds like a cross between In The Presence of Enemies and 2112 though

I just got both emails. I'm trying to stay positive, but that was ... really bad. The Chosen One? "Nafaryus"?

Ok, some of the language is a bit silly, but I think the basic concept is pretty cool and would make for a good concept album as long as all the names and stuff were kept in the booklet.

Am I the only stupid one that finds those blurbs confusing and impossible to follow?  :lol

Gotta read it a few more times I think.

I already read the email a few times and still can't understand what is it about... I will focus more on the music anyway, then I'll read the lyrics and try to understand the story

Good.  It's not just me then.  :lol  Read through it once and didn't know what the hell is going on.  Sounds epic then.

My strike rate enjoying concept albums ain't good so I will do the same............if I like the songs then I will take some interest in the concept.  if the music doesn't grab me then I will save myself the time.

jakepriest

I gotta say, most of the spam mail I get makes more sense than these two e-mails. Oh well, let's hope the music makes up for it.

But yeah, just rereading the Rebel one. 2112 essentially.

jsbru

It would have been better if the Ravenskill Militia were called The Great Southern Trendkill Militia.

Then the Rock Opera could be like Gettysburg.

Given that that movie is 6 hours long, it would be guaranteed to be a double, if not triple CD.

jsbru

Also, maybe they brought Kevin Moore back into the fold to write a soundtrack for the movie with the sound muted...to make it fit on 3 CDs, you speed up Gettysburg to 2x the speed.

Wouldn't it be cool if they gave absolutely no indication that anything Metropolis was involved, but then the last song of the album included a brief Metropolis reprise and basically confirmed that this was somehow Metropolis Pt. 3?

No. :lol

My guess is 1984 meets The Matrix.

I got a bit of a 1984 vibe. But they're pretty basic elements being used here.

This sounds a bit cheesy to me, but lyrics are of little importance to me. Just imagine reading the story of SFAM before hearing the music. What would we have thought about that? :lol I can't wait to hear a single and see how this influences the music.

I was telling my wife about SFAM a while back and midway through I stopped and said, "Maybe this isn't really that great of story. I guess I should just tell you about it as we listen to it."

Anyway, to this day it is still one of her lesser cared for DT album.  I think I ruined it for her.

BlobVanDam

You should have just told her it was a love story, and left it at that.

Indeed, the "love story" approach works well with women! That's exactly how I got my ex to Star Wars  :lol

MustActFastToCoverUp

It always was difficult to defend my DT-fandom to normal  people, but now with this? Impossible! We're doomed! Trapped inside this nerdavarium.

The Stray Seed

I'm very glad I'm feeling so hyped instead of most of you in this topic. I really like what they're doing, I almost dropped my mobile when I saw the email from Ravenskill! It was absolutely amazing and makes me feel involved in the whole concept as never before! Keep it up DT, I can't wait to hear the "stirring melody"!!

PS: as they did mention a Metropolis and two brothers, I wouldn't completely exclude a Metropolis Part III concept.

footloose mashed up with star wars.

Also known as Guardians of The Galaxy.  :lol

So, yeah, it does seem to be cheesy, but if the music is good i don´t care.

alexofsweden

What if...

CD 1: The Great Northern Empire
CD 2: The Ravenskill Rebel Militia

It's an double album with 2 songs, of course divided like Six Degrees. "Choose one side" A-side or B-side...disc 1 or disc 2

MirrorMask

I think with the emails being sent, the "chose one side" thing was just from a storyline point of view... it wouldn't really make much of a narrative sense to have an entire disc, or part one of a story, devoted to the Empire and part two devoted to the rebels... we'll see, anything is still possible but I think two Six-Degrees style songs would be ravensoverkill and a very unlikely move.
