Sci-fi concept album? If so, what will it be about?

A few clues say the new album might have a sci-fi atmosphere to it. Take a look at dreamtheater.net if you already haven't. We have the distortion, we have a strange machine (or something like that) in the side menu - and the image file name is "Nomac". Then we have what Jordan said, that there's gonna be a shift in the universal flow.
So, if it were really something sci-fi related, what might it be about? What could be the concept behind it?

The Genie is captured by aliens (this is reflected in the album's minimal drumming) and the album tells the story of the Pirate, Wizard, Ninja and Bear's attempts to rescue him. Featuring a 15-minute epic Final Battle.

I think this new album being a concept album is a very real possibility, considering the amount of time it's been taking to get any news in the first place and with what the OP's already pointed out. I won't be holding my breathe until we get any real news though.

I'm still not totally sold on it being a sci-fi theme though, but it would align with what Petrucci (I believe it was him, if not, someone will correct me) said about it being something they haven't done before. As far as I can remember, they haven't made an outright sci-fi themed anything.

It will be about a society being controlled by a small group of wealthy men who control every aspect of life such as reading matters, songs and pictures. One day, our hero discovers an ancient contraption and learns how to use it. Thinking he has made a wonderful discovery that will be a boon to humanity, he goes to present the object to the world's rulers, who angrily destroy it and scold him for bringing this object who caused the collapse of the previous civilization.

The man then goes into hiding and he dreams of the world that existed before. Upon awakening, he becomes distraught and commits suicide. As he is dying, the ancient civilization comes back to fight the ruling elite and free the people from their power.

Yep, that sounds about right

I'd be surprised if it wasn't a concept album. I just have that Petrucci quote (and I'm paraphrasing) "we've taken long than usual and you'll see why" in my mind and it just has me convinced.

I think if anything it might be a concept more in the way of Octavarium than SFAM, but there does appear to be some kind of "theme". I wouldn't make any leap to scifi based on the nothing information we have yet.

Iirc, the two things were writer's block or double album, not concept album.
