Ravenskill's logo was better in its earlier, red version! IMO of course

It's all a swerve, it's just a promo for JR's new app, which is an iphone game.

New album info still to come.

Serious?

At the same time, the video game thing has me worried. If the new album revolves around the same theme, I fear it will be a fantasy one (I'm more of a dystopia guy). Anyways, let's see what happens.

My first thoughts when I saw the website update:
That definitely doesn't look like Hugh Syme, but what amateur is responsible for artwork this lousy and cheap?
It really looks like an old computer. game A very badly made old computer game.

:|

Still the musical/lyricsl concept might be nice.
Hope more care went into that.

Greetings...

Maybe they will only send out emails for the six months between the two dates.

If, as suggested by Hef, it's a phone game, it isn't so bad.

I also found these, which apparently are old versions of the logos:

Official ones for reference:

Where did you find those apparently older logos?

Pettor

What the ... the "old ones" look more finished :omg:

Implode

Yeah. Did they hire a graphic designer straight out of the 90's? It kind of looks awful, especially Ravenskill. Like it looks like the eyes are just filled with a fill tool and they slapped on an inner glow on the image in photoshop.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I agree it looked kind of amateurish, but I've tried to hold that opinion back because it excites me that they're doing something different.

ariich

I don't get what's supposedly so amateurish about these logos.

I can't put my finger to it, maybe it's the font? Or the 3D models? I really don't know, but I can tell you it didn't make a huge visual impact on me  :lol

Who's in graphic design here? I'm sure someone can put it into words. Blob?

You don't need to be an expert; they look terrible. Poor design, and the number of fonts on the page where you're asked to choose doesn't help.

jammindude

It looks like the intro for a Sega Genesis game.

ErHaO

I like them because they look like logo's used in games I played as a kid. Kind of how 80's people love pixel-art, I guess. I do see what people mean though, but don't think it looks ugly in this case. The "older" ones look better though.

The logos are fine, but they look rushed. They have a distinct look of the photoshop layer effect which makes it seem a bit cheap.

This. The logos look terrible imho, let's hope the music makes up for it.

Kotowboy

Hopefully this is just a teaser for the theme of the album and this is just a quick mock up and has nothing to do with the actual artwork.

Overanalyzing is overanalyzing.

Yeah. The new ones aren't awful, but they don't exactly look professional, either. The old ones, however, do. I don't get it.

Not yet but if I see more silly posts I will.  :lol

I guess when I look at them, they look like an old flash game that I would have played in 2002 online.

Onno

Yeah, basically. But we'll see. I'm assuming they put a lot more effort into the music itself  :lol

Calvin6s

If the music comes out and is cheesy or poorly recorded, mixed, mastered, I will say something.  But the quality of the artwork is just icing and not the chocolate cake.  So that stuff doesn't bother me a bit.  If they were a graphic artist company, I might be bitching (although I don't even think they are bad enough to take away from the curiosity of the larger theme they are getting ready to roll out.

I'm more a fan of lyrics that deal with real issues (even if using indirect themes to present it), but I'm still ok with the idea of a fictional story.

What I am taking away is that they might have had some deep inspiration which could result in a classic album(s).

Yeah! That can only be a good thing in my book. XD

The symbols kinda remind me of the style of GDI and NOD or Allies and Soviets logos from Command and Conquer games.

And that differs how from, say, current video games? These are clearly logos in some sort of dystopian and/or fantasy setting, so I think they look very fitting. They're just logos, and as logos they seem to fit very well with the vibe they're going for.

I'm not expecting anything from the artwork based on the last few albums, but these logos seem absolulely fine to me. It's almost like people are letting their expectations about DT's artwork pre-judge everything they put out.

EraVulgaris

I know many people here are really hoping for a concept album with a continous story, but man, I really hope that they put enough efforts into their lyrics if they choose to tell a sci fi / fantasy story. To be honest, I'm a little afraid that it might turn out to be an album full of ITPOE and TDEN lyrics... or something like the last Ayreon story... or the latest Muse album *shudder*

Calvin6s

First the copied unicyclist, then the DT12 bad photoshopping and now this.  I can appreciate cool artist artwork for an album, but bad artwork has to be really bad for me to care that it is bad.

So when will they release the iOS / Android game app with the *single* as the game music.  Even if it is only one basic level and a horrible game, I think that would be an interesting release strategy.

The Stray Seed

I'm not fond of the logos, but they look ok to me anyway. Why don't we talk about the Nomac? That thing looks awesome imo!
