What's your favorite Images and words song?

yeah_93

Easily In The Name of God. Followed by The Count and then The Ministry.

Rodni Demental

Ah... Wow that's actually tough list to choose from! Damn, I love The Count of Tuscany, would almost vote for that. And then Ministry and Great Debate have been decent growers for me over recent times. And In the Name of God is an old favorite that I may have overplayed... I voted Lines in the Sand because this song was my actual favorite song for a small period of time upon first 'clicking' with it.

LITS is probably my true answer but part of me wants to give TMOLS and TGD some representation. ;)

pcs90

For overall effect, Lines in the Sand. I love In the Name of God but I tend to skip some of the solos whereas on LITS I listen straight through. Then The Great Debate, The Count of Tuscany, and TMOLS last.
I'd actually place the instrumental version of TCOT ahead of the vocal version...hate MP's vocals and the lyrics aren't as good as the others IMO. But the whole last section of the song, as it slowly builds to the end is just amazing.

BlobVanDam

Tough call between LITS and ITNOG. Both top DT songs. The rest are great songs too, but not quite on the same level imo.

CharlesPL

I vote on TCoT

1. TCoT/ItNoG
3. The Great Debate

4. LitS (i've never been fan of this)

5. TMoLS - one of the worst DT songs IMO.

TheCountOfNYC

Easily TCoT. It's my second favorite DT song.

The Great Debate, that song is geniously instrumentated and has a perfect progression in my eyes.

However, In The Name Of God and Lines In The Sand closely follow

The Count of Tuscany

In the Name of God and Lines in the Sand are close behind, and The Ministry of Lost Souls is also very good. I'm not a huge fan of The Great Debate. It's alright but it's nothing special.

In the name of God- Epic riff, love the exploding intro, nice chorus, love the bridge (part where it softens up), love the solo and outro. I especially love the Petrucci/Rudess duet. it's one of my favorite P/R duets of any song.

Ministry of Souls- So sad and Labrie is epic here. I mean, what more can you ask for? There is a solo in the middle that blows my mind. A slow song like that immediately turns intense all the way to the end. Loved it.

the count/lines- At my bottom of the favs. Lyrically, it'seems alright,  but unnecessary guitar for the count of Tuscany and unnecessary Sherinian/Portnoy duet in the middle of Lines.

Debate- Loved every part besides sampling. Relevant, but to long. I especially love the mesh of all the instruments at one point.

I decided to do a poll of dream theater songs from each album. After choosing the top 3 songs, we will choose the top song from that album. We will go to each album and chose the top song for that album and we will choose the best song. New voting starts NOW!

Crow

reading this thread after the poll was changed is surreal
turns out signatures are fundamentally broken now so here's my passive-aggressive signature about signatures instead

There's plenty of ranking polls in the Polls sections, and some scattered in this main board.

Train of Naught

This is suspiciously similar to survivors the way you explain it  :lol.

Anyway, I voted the only right answer, Metropolis!

Setlist Scotty

Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
Quote from: TAC on July 10, 2024, 08:26:41 AMPOW is awesome! :P

TAC

Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

This.

DT Survivors are already in place, run by long-time members.  No reason to run another set.

Yeah you should check out DoC's DT the League, I believe they're hosted every year. He created a very cool division system, where the lower tiers are matched against eachother and the best ones are matched against eachother aswell and so forth..

Another day for me! Less than 5 mins but still packs a punch. That solo.....
