I haven't listened to the Alice Cooper song in some time - and still haven't so I'm not entirely sure if I'm right about this, but:

The start of the STR solo is reminiscient of the start of Vai/Satriani solo in FMF off the Alice Cooper album "Hey Stoopid".

I believe the vibe is very similar.

Any thoughts ??

I'm not going to listen to that song - I remember not thinking very much of it, and I'm not a huge Alice Cooper fan anyway.

And I can guarantee that JP didn't take his solo from that song.

But I'm curious about something.  If you admit you haven't heard that song in a long time either, didn't you think of listening to it again before posting this?

You got a point - I was listening to STR on my way to work and got this thought - I do not have access to youtube so I can listen to the AC song for comparison - but like I said, I'm very very positive that the "feel" and "sound" is alike.

Just thinking that as it is a vai and satriani solo, just maybe they shared some licks on the G3 tour that got him inspired to do something similar.

But will have to listen to it tonight and compare to see if I'm totally offbase.

But I'm sorry if you think this is not relevant - I will be more carefull in the future when starting a topic...  :(

No problem, and there may be some similarities.  I was just curious.

Okay - it's all good  ;)

I will post my thoughts tonight when I get home and have listened to the songs together

Nofire

Funny that you should mention Feed my frankenstein since I've thought all along that the keyboard layer in IT from about 4.14 to the chorus is very similar to the ones in the second verse of FMF.

Mastervai

Okay - listened to FMF last night.

The beginning of the two solos are definitely similar and has the same sound/feel - from there on the expression of the solo (meaning the agressivenes and "in yer face") are the only thing that can be said to be the same.

But check it out and let me know what YOU think

If we're talking Surrender to Reason here, the entire band is so busy channeling the solo section to Free Will by Rush I can't hear anything else at all.  :lol

The guitar effects at the beginning are obviously similar. Nice find!

Well dry guitar sound with flanger is not that uncommon...

I don't think it is just the sound - the first few seconds of the two solos are similar in that it is sort of the same thing being played in a similar rythmic pattern.

I will agree that after the initial "noise" / "sound effect" the similarities end.

But it was enough for me to feel the vibe of the satch/vai solo i FMF that I had to post here and check it out.

Again, not saying that the two solos are the same or identical - just stating that the beginning of the two has the same feel and sound.

Thank you!! then I am not entirely alone on this one  ;)

TAC

I'm probably the biggest Alice Cooper fan on DTF and STR has not made me think of FMF. I'll give it a check tonight, but it certainly hasn't jumped out at me.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

Even more so in my opinion, that whole solo section is A Farewell To Kings through and through

I still Think the first 5 seconds are very simirlar - and furtermore believe that a lot of People on this board normally detects far more subtle things. Som syne its because not Manu are familiar with the legend that is Alice Cooper 😀

So TAC - did you check it out?
Come on, TAC, it's been over a year.  The suspense is killing me!
