I was listening to the soundtrack today and I was trying to figure out why I love this part so much. Then it hit me... this sounds like Dream Theater lol.

LOL. Well, I can see where the OP is coming from. But I don't know if I'd associate with DT, it just makes me think 80s synth. And generally puts a smile on my face when I hear stuff like that in movies because you just don't see (hear?) that kinda thing anymore.

Yeah, it's definitely a product of its time. But for a lower budget movie scifi from the mid '80s about a killer robot, it worked.
