For me, I would have to say that while Score is the most special still, Live at Bucharest (the official bootleg) is still the best. To me that is DT at their best, even if James is somewhat of a weak link.

I dunno, I almost thought Luna Park was the best yet at the time (apart from the apparent dry mix, yarda yarda), still was a stunning performance and looked really good, not to mention amazing setlist. Too soon to judge the new one but I wouldn't be surprised, it has the potential to become my favourite (so far).

Bucharest is pretty awesome, I do like that one, too bad it's a bit budget and the camera guys have no idea what they're doing xD. I also really like Live in Tokyo because it's quite different from anything else having the I&W line up, and early 90s James slaying on vocals. I don't know if I have a definitive favourite because I like them all for different reasons. Score for it's unique anniversary setlist and the orchestra, Buddakan for how heavy it is and the awesome Japanese crowd going nuts, Scenes because of the setlist and Jordan's early days with the band. I even like 5Years because it's got some interesting stuff in there like the music vids, acoustics sets not to mention getting to see Derek play. When Dream and Day Unite is also quite cool because it's an especially special show. But it could have been super dooper extra especially special if James had a good night on that one but you can't win 'em all!

Edit: Did I just completely forget about Chaos in Motion..? Yes... I think I did.  :lol

Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York    All time fave but close behind are:
Live at Budokan & Score

Budokan is my favourite, for the fantastic audio mix and untouchable video production. The major weak point of the show is JLB's vocals, mostly towards the end of the night, but overall it's still the benchmark.

Second place would be either Metropolis 2000 or Score. Score has the better performance, and JLB is at the top of his game, but Metropolis 2000 has SFAM from start to finish, and has a ton of energy. Of course OTOH, it has the terrible video, and JLB is again the weak point.

I haven't seen Breaking the Fourth Wall yet, but I think that will easily slot in very high in my ranking, thanks to a great performance from the band (especially JLB), and the good mix. I don't see it topping Metropolis 2000 or Score though, based mostly on the weak setlist. But it should easily beat the rest.

At the current moment:

1. Score (Octavarium and SDoIT with the orchestra?...just stellar!)

2. Budokan / BTFW

3. LaLP (Set list saves this one for me, due to the bad mix)

4. Live Scenes From NY (SFaM in its entirety, plus the most amazing version of ACoS)

5. CiM

Have not seen any others.

BTFW very will could end up in sole position of 2nd place over time.

Really tough to say after only watching the new one once, and going through two of three of the CDs so far. But my initial gut reaction is:

Score
Breaking the Fourth Wall
When Dream and Day Reunite
Live at Budokan
(Dark Side of the Moon)
Metropolis 2000
Live in Santiago 2005
Live in Bucharest 2002
Live in Tokyo
--------------------------- (the 'like' line)
Chaos in Motion (it's actually not too bad, I just don't ever feel like watching it)
5 Years in a LIVEtime (I pretty much only watch this with the commentary. Love Cover My Eyes from this, though)
Live at Luna Park (the new stuff is pretty good live, but the canned nine second loop of crowd noise fucking kills this for me. If you're gonna loop added crowd noise, how about making sure there isn't any distinct whistling??)

Was at both Score and Fourth Wall. I gotta give it to Score as it still gives me chills any time I hear/watch I Walk Beside You, Another Won, Overture, Octavarium, and the intro to Metropolis. Best setlist I've seen at a DT show. Fourth Wall is almost there, but I can do without Breaking All Illusions and Scarred. Speaking of Scarred, the video overlay throughout the entire song was an awful choice! Glad there's none of that on Score, another reason why it's my #1!

I was trying to wrap my brain about what release you could possibly be talking about there, until I learned it wasn't a DT related abbreviation.

Wait, you mean you don't have DT's On The Other Hand DVD, with the full performance of the concept album sequel to The Killing Hand? You're missing out!

Rodni Demental

:omg: Oooh! Of course! How could I forget it with that cover of The Beatles 'I Want to Hold Your Hand', plus Michael Jackson and Akon's 'Hold my Hand'. Not to mention the unexpected version of Nine Inch Nails - 'The Hand That Feeds'.

BlobVanDam

You forgot about the encore medley of Bon Jovi - Lay Your Hands on Me / Raise Your Hands.

Word for word this is exactly how I feel

BTFW. I know its early days still but even just the 1-2 punch of TEI and TSF is awesome. I find myself dipping in to it before work and next time just starting from the intro again so I've seen those 2 a lot. Its so in your face and by the end of TSF you just think "Man, Mike Mangini CANNOT keep that up for nearly 3 hours!". But he does! First set also includes (IMO) definitive versions of OTBOA and BAI, as well as Trial of Tears.

Then you've got the Awake set including the first time out for SDVest, IT which is unbelievable in its true form with the real orchestra, and finally SFAM. Its just fantastic.

THEN ever after the pretty-much-perfect setlist, the musicians themselves shine. JLB is stellar, JP as good as ever and MM - well everything has already been said. Throw in the powerful choir, and the brilliant orchestra and you have perfection my friend.

Just FYI - Budokan for me gets knocked down a bit for its setlist and JLB sounding off towards the end. Score - same problems setlist wise and the orchstra sounding a bit off. Luna Park  - editing issues and lack of crowd kills it for me.

Good to hear some appreciation for TSF!

I thought it was kind of weird that they chose that song for this DVD. Reason being, because when BCaSL was released, I remember that song getting a lot of hate.  (Not from me, I personally like it a lot). And it has never really seemed to gain much popularity.

Then I thought...maybe they chose it because it encompasses the whole AA suite, and covers a lot of ground, representing songs from 5 different albums in one single song.

In any case, I think it was an awesome addition to the new DVD!

cramx3

Maybe but I also think the band wanted to get a few things out of the closet by playing songs that they havent before and end the stigma that without MP they might not play certain songs.

Etiher way, I like TSF and am also glad it made its way to a well done DVD.

Maybe..never thought of it that way
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

I agreed with you before watching Breaking The Fourth Wall.  I realize that I will rate it higher than you because I like the setlist a lot more than you.

Sad Wings

1.  Breaking the Fourth Wall.  The whole second half of Awake made the show worth seeing for me, with the combo of Scarred and SDV being one of my favorite concert experiences.  A healthy helping of DT12 and SFAM plus Trial of Tears is just icing on the cake.

2.  Live in Tokyo.  The one video from when the band were truly in their prime, with James at the absolute peak of his powers.  Lovely version of Wait For Sleep.

3.  Live Scenes From New York.  Strong setlist, but James weakens some songs and I never reach for this.

4.  Score.  A terrific performance of a really weak setlist.  Some really baffling song choices, particularly Innocence Faded.  The orchestra sounds sloppy and out of tune at times, and I just don't like 6DOIT enough to justify 43 minutes.  One of the most disappointing concerts I've attended, and the beginning of my diminishing interest in DT up until MP left.

Honestly, I have Budokan from someone who wanted to get rid of it but have yet to watch it.  Way too much ToT material for my liking.  Plus I've already heard the audio.  I may just watch the documentary.

Dream Team

This is tough . . .

1. Live Scenes (due to SFAM, ACOS, LTL, Voices and MP was on fire)
2. BTFW (kinda early, but an awesome release with MM KILLING it)
3. Score (loses points due to 2nd set but the best JLB performance)
4. Live at Bucharest (best setlist, would be #1 with professional production and a few touched-up vocals)
5. LALP (really good setlist, but JP dominates the mix too much)
6. LAB (great audio & video but really only enjoy about 8 of the songs).
7. WDADRU (would rate higher than Budokan but JLB was off and it only has bootleg quality)
8. Live in Tokyo (such great energy but not having Metropolis or Learning to Live kills it. Love the Ibanez!!)
9. Live in Santiago (lesser version of Score, with better song choices)
10. CiM (disastrous vocals in some spots but great bunch of songs)
11. 5YiaLT (easily the least favorite, with a bunch of chopped-up version of songs  :tdwn)
