Has DT ever had a "train wreck" onstage? This might require some research.I've never heard,or seen one,and I have a vast collection of live recordings, and DVDs.Anyone?

This Pull Me Under rendition verges on being a train wreck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_Bdy3vIqVI

Power outage, thus not their fault, but pretty funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tnZvnD0Kek

Nothing went wrong here, but the alternate lyrics and improvs are hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzBCsWv2jfQ

It happened once that they sort of got carried away during the Zappa Jam in BTL-2004, and followed a faster and faster upwards spiral until they literaly ran out of notes in their instruments to play. So they just stoppe dead for like 5 seconds before reprising the jam on a more somber and funky note.

The audience approved and so do I, incredible live moment!

EDIT: I may actually upload a video of that, it's a very obscure live moment I think should be better known among DT fans!

They trainwrecked Metropolis when I saw them in Sydney. I can't find a full video, but here's part of it, after they'd already stopped once.

Jordan wasn't too happy about it afterwards, but for me that was a great spontaneous live moment, and other people I went with figured it was intentional. I love stuff like that.

TheAtliator

Yea for some reason every time they play this song called Outcry, they get to this part in the middle and no one can decide what key or time signature to play in so it always gets all crazy and disorderly.

Xenon

Not really a live screwup, but that song Enigma Machine is a Train Wreck  ;D

rumborak

JP's solo in that SoniSphere video is a bit of a train wreck.

Please do. That's an incredible description there.

Also, https://youtu.be/WHEsijaLMOs?t=6m55s . Jordan's mistake, by the way, then John was distracted by him, but JLB and MM stayed on.

Metropolis pt 1 from the 2000 Phoenix show. They had to restart the song I think

Only a Matter of Time - October 1992 in Long Island -- Home Sweet Home bootleg.  JP waffles up the riff following the orchestral break, but at least he didn't fall of the stage this time.

Yep. And that's why click tracks help. Funny video, though.  :lol

Great subject! At least it proves they actually play live.Unlike so many entertainers these days. You guys know what I mean.

?

Probably doesn't fit the definition of a trainwreck, but this year in Helsinki JP started his lead before the first verse in Trial of Tears with the wrong note and proceeded to play an improvised solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBW_MEyGPwE#t=8m2s I thought it was intentional until I saw other live videos from the tour :D

Not really, I don't know anyone who doesn't play live this genre and those are the performers DT can be compared to. I used to scowl at bands that used triggered backing vocals and audio effects to enhance their live sound (Nightwish for instance), but now DT is one of those bands, so...

Rodni Demental

There was a "train-wreck" moment in the Dance of Eternity this tour and a "mistake" in Overture. I use quotation marks because I would barely consider the Overture thing a mistake, it's just a note that most people don't notice. And the Dance of Eternity I think was Mangini getting lost on the tempo, but they kept it together surprisingly well so I dunno if it's a trainwreck but it's noticeable if you're familiar with the song. I think it was the second show they played? Where all the video and lighting got screwy and they cut Scarred out of the set. There's a video out there but I can't find it.

I meant to say that Metropolis Pt 1 from the 2000 August show in Phoenix. They restarted the song twice I think.

This is a trainwreck version of 6'o clock, MP just played too fast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwNM5ikaMfc

They only recovered after Rudess' solo.

RaiseTheKnife

Nah, its kinda cool at that tempo.  No big gaffs, but MP does a slight accent change that surprises the other guys, but they maintain control IMO.

C'mon. The feel of the song disappeared with that tempo, JM barely could keep up with his complicated bass lines having to be played at a very fast speed. If they are comfortable playing that song at that tempo, JR would have maintained the quick pace at the 3:16 mark when he set the pace. But he did not and played at the manageable tempo.

RaiseTheKnife

Still doesn't rise to the descrption of a  "train wreck."

LOL! I also don't know what is more of a train wreck. JR's hair or JLB showing cleavage.

I was speaking primarily about Pop Stars I guess.Anyway,I know Rush uses triggers, etc.and I've never had a problem with that.It hard to pull some of this stuff of completely live.
