I hate seeing tranny results in my porn search.

Which now strangely connects with the Philippines post above.

Since when?

I'm sure every word is offensive to somebody somewhere.  I wish society would stop worrying so much about being politically correct these days.  It's out of control.

That's true, but I don't think tranny is the same as fag. The latter is used in a derogatory way, whereas tranny is short for transsexual or transvestite. Maybe I'm wrong. Any transvestites on the forum wanna chime in?

Tranny is also short for transmission.  Any transmissions wanna chime in?   :lol

Goodnight Kiss would make more sense with a female frontman.

Not transsexual but I can confirm tranny is considered by some (many?) to be a slur nowadays.  (I say this because there was a brouhaha at my school back in the spring because a guest speaker used the word, which upset a bunch of people.)  It might not be quite as inflammatory as "fag" but you should probably avoid both.

Not about this topic on naming but I though I'd share this band relating to this topic as it pertains to the singer.

I'd rather see DT call it quits before they explore a female singer. I know y'all want them to go on forever but sometimes it's smarter knowing when to stop.

yeah, I'm tired of changes . . . let's just make some great music!  still tryin' to  :metal

For me it depends on the woman.

I don't like female death metal vocals, or screechy vocals, not because tehy are female but because they are death metal and/or screechy.   But I could listen to Ann Wilson or Johnette Napolitano all day long.  I would think that of any prog metal band, DT is most set up for having a woman singer, and I think an Ann Wilson (or Gretchen Wilson, though different genre) could really do some of the more melodic choruses justice.

Or we could stop focusing on words independent of context and intent and focus on the underlying ideas.  There are many many ideas that worded "correctly" that are far more insidious and offensive - if anyone cared to give it another thought - than someone using a shortened version of the very word that describes the class.   But that's just me, and this is an argument for another thread.

If you'd like me to create a thread where we discuss rude words and their meanings in modern society, then I can do that for you. However, I'm all for people NOT voicing their opinions on this matter, as it would inevitably just end up with us talking about Kevin Moore.
