LIVE AT LUNA PARK pt DEUX: THE DINGO AND THE BLOBBER

BlobVanDam

They should totally have filmed the next live album here, and called it "Live at Luna Park" just to mess with people. :P

And they could have played the whole ADTOE tour setlist once again, so the whole theme stays consistent.  :-*

:lol While that would indeed make for a very confusing DVD release, I wouldn't mind. The ADTOE tour had a great setlist, that I'd prefer to the current one.

BlobVanDam

I know we have a few people going to the Melbourne show, but do we have anyone else here going to the Sydney show, besides the couple of people already mentioned?

lucky7

They seem to be all on the Aussie DT Facebook page...I did read something about a meetup before the gig.

Wow - what a show.  Sound/lighting/performance all way better than the two shows at the Hordern.  Brilliant stuff.

IT - what a song. :)

Setlist Scotty

Just a head's up, but there's not one but two different recordings of this show that just went up on Dimeadozen, for those of you who want the bootleg of this show.   :)
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Sydney - live review:

https://www.theaureview.com/reviews/sydney/an-evening-with-dream-theater-the-big-top-luna-park-30-10-14

"One criticism I had with the night was that after missing us on the last tour, we seemed to miss out completely on the previous album (which personally I think was better than their latest), and in it’s place we got a few songs we had heard last time they were here – such as “The Mirror” and “Lie” which personally could have been replaced with some of the songs we missed out on if not some older golden numbers."

Unless they miraculously dropped On The Backs of Angels and Breaking All Illusions I dunno wtf he's talking about.

Glad the sound was crystal clear in Sydney (and for some in Melbourne) because I barely heard a thing above the wall of volume/bass from my seat in Melbourne.  Might have to buy that error filled DVD  ;D

Nope, we got the regular tour setlist with OTBOA and BAI. I can't say I've heard any complaints about the sound in Sydney. It seems it was good from everywhere (certainly from where I was). Not bad at all for no soundcheck.

jimbosile

I was sitting dead centre, second row from the back and the sound was perfect.

I didn't know anyone who was in the seated area, but it looked nice. What was the view like from there? I only briefly walked past it to get to the after show area.

jimbosile

The view was really good. Wasn't too far away from the stage so I could see everything fine as the seating area was only 10 rows or so and the venue isn't massive. Close enough to see Mangini smiling the whole time. The only problem is you feel a bit out of it back there. Not as much cheering or singing going on as the standing area I'd imagine but didn't really want to be on my feet for 3 hours. Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the music. Had a few friends in the standing section that said they would have loved to have been sitting.

BlobVanDam

Yeah, 3 hours is a slog for any band, as great as they were. I sat down for a bit in the sound area, but I still took a break to sit in the foyer area for a couple of songs. Luckily it wasn't too hard to move around.

JayOctavarium

I'm assuming you took a sitting break during Scarred? :lol

BlobVanDam

Well technically Scarred was my piss break.
But you better believe I was nowhere near the concert when they played Scarred and Space Dye Vest. :lol I watched everything else though.

bugsyoz

I was in the premium upper level seating also.  Incredible view of the show, entire stage, entire lighting and so on.
