Wanted your opinion about this but as a musician I like the beauty part of DT a lot. Can be wether song or chorus, illuminate me please  :|

The ending of Illumination Theory, mindblowing finale. Also the final bit of The Bigger Picture (starting with "You look but cannot see"). Those are my favorites at the moment.

jammindude

I will never forget the first time I heard the final chorus for Learning to Live.

Thank you for giving me a good memory.  I needed it right now. I have goosebumps just thinking about.

Nice.  I think I like the performance (albeit in a stink Medley) on OIALT the best, love the way James screeches out that F# on 'soul'.

Wait for Sleep
Hollow Years
Goodnight Kiss (minus the chorus, which I think ruins it)
Beautiful Agony section of A Nightmare to Remember
Space-Dye Vest

Maybe I'll have to go back and listen again.  I love every other DT live album from back to front...even CiM.  But JLB's performance on OIALT is just unlistenable for me. I listened to it about a half dozen times when it came out, and I was so embarrassed for him that I haven't heard it since.

sneakyblueberry

I guess I have a soft spot for it as it was the first DT I ever really got into.  He is pretty so-so on it, but I dunno, I like it!

Yeah, he's not at his best there. But I will echo the comment about that F#, that was one of the good moments on that DVD. They didn't even play the part with the well-known F# and he went for it! :D

Beautiful songs? Let's see, we have: Learning To Live, Lifting Shadows off a Dream, Space Dye Vest, Hollow Years live at Budokan, The Spirit Carries On, Wither, The Best of Times, The Count of Tuscany, This is The Life, Beneath the Surface, The Bigger Picture and Along for the Ride.

As for beautiful choruses: Hollow Years live at Budokan, Beneath the Surface, The Bigger Picture and Lifting Shadows are in my top.

Eve was the first song I thought, even though it doesn't have a chorus, or lyrics at all. I love it. That part when everything goes silent and all you can hear is Kevin's synth and Mike hitting the cymbals is amazing.
Learning to Live ("The Way your heart sounds, makes all the difference..." part at the end is great. The song as a whole is beautiful)
Wait for Sleep
Beneath the Surface (I like it more and more as time goes by)
Disappear, definitely ("So I'm moving on, I'll never forget" part)
Take Away My Pain (Demo Version)
Lifting Shadows off a Dream
The Piano version of Wither
Through Her Eyes. The intro is pretty good. TSCO as well

That would be only if I count songs; DT has also beautiful segments among their songs (String part on Illumination Theory, Octavarium's intro and end, Blind Faith/Misunderstood intros, The Best of Times and Lines in the Sand solos, Hell's Kitchen, and more I can't remember right now)

jammindude

Can't believe I didn't think of Lifting Shadows..... that chorus is GAWJUS!

Lucidity

The choruses of Bridges in the Sky and Breaking All Illusions and the entirety of Vacant come to mind.

Oh shit  I forgot about BAI's chorus. It's incredible. I did think of vacant, and it is indeed beautiful, but I think it's more sad and melancholic than beautiful per se. Doesn't make it any less amazing of a song however.

Anna Lee

THIS! Anna Lee's chorus is hands-down the most beautiful moment on FII. One of the greatest chord progressions they have ever come up with, and yet it gets nowhere near the amount of appreciation it should. A gross misjustice.

I have goosebumps just thinking about.
I have goosebumps when I listen to any DT song.
I think that's just because my heating isn't great. But, I agree with Learning To Live. I also love Space Dye Vest.
Although not beautiful, some parts of Octavarium also give me the chills! Especially the "Trapped inside this octavarium" section. I think it's a great song.

A Nightmare to Remember....  Hands down for me the most beautiful chorus they've ever written....

Hopelessly drifting,
Bathing in beautiful agony.
I am endlessly falling,
Lost in this wonderful misery.
In peaceful sedation, I lay half awake
And all of the panic inside starts to fade.
Hopelessly drifting,
Bathing in beautiful agony.

CodyWanKenobi

The "hopefully drifting" part in ANTR and the "you look but cannot see" part in TBP (although, I guess that's technically not the chorus of the song) are the two parts that first enter my head.

In Octavarium, the simple instrumental section that begins the "Medicate". The drums and bass working in tandem together, preparing for JP and Jordan to come in like 2 perfect ballerinas. Sigh....

I know I mentioned this part before, but looking at the lyrics I'm having second thoughts.  They're pretty... just bleugh.

Agreed. This song is excellent up until this section is over then the song just falls apart IMO.

I love the beautiful side of Dream Theater. More beautiful and less metal.
My favorites:
Learning To Live
Wait For Sleep
Far From Heaven
Outcry
Breaking All Illusions
Space Dye Vest
Illumination Theory
Octavarium
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
