Hollow Years has been a very liked song by non DT, non Prog, non Metal fan I played it for.

Hollow years is really a wonderful song for everyone. I've ever recommended it to some of my friends, they all liked it very much. 6:00 freaks them out.

Why would you even show DT to someone who doesn't like prog of metal?

Because DT is diverse enough that they have at least one song for everyone. And sometimes you want to share your favorite band with a friend or a special someone who isn't necessarily into your music.

Not really.

Yeah no way. As for a song I'd recommend to someone not interested in prog: Hollow Years L@B.

Following the general idea if this thread, I ask you guys: how would introduce a DT fan to Rush?
I tried, listened to 2 or 3 songs, but could not go on. Please, help me out here, cause I know Rush is worth knowing!

Well Moving Pictures is their most commercially successful album and it does have alot of good songs. The Camera eye being the longest challenging, and Limelight being a radio hit amongst others. Permanent Waves has a great track called "Natural Science" that would be more similar to a DT type song and it rocks really well. Their New CD "Cockwork Angels" is modern and fantastic concept album with alot of different elements that represents Rush Quite well.  :tup  just a few suggestions, their catalog is huge and awesome!!

Yeah, I'd honestly go with Clockwork Angels. I was a very late Rush bloomer but that album pretty much sold me and I went backwards from there. Snakes and Arrows is pretty cool too but once you get to Vapour Trails it'll require a certain ear of appreciation. After that, well Moving Pictures is a no brainer. And personally, I think Signals is absolutely essential as it's a great representation of the more developed synth sounds they were starting to experiment with (even though it's a slightly controversial album among fans).

The more 'prog' material from the 70s was actually the last of the stuff I got into as I didn't find it very accusable at first. (As young Geddy Lee took a while to grow on me as I much prefer his singing these days, more technique, less screechy etc.  :lol). Still, the compositions and arrangements tend to be much more interesting in the 70s but 80s was still great and arguably more refined. 90s Rush is slightly strange territory, more experimental styles of writing but still good stuff. And modern Rush is almost perfect. I know a lot of Rush fans don't share my views but hopefully you stay interested in them because they're totally worth exploring and discovering further. ;)

A ton of people I play Far From Heaven for love it, but it's not even slightly representetive of their normal stuff.

Strange Deja Vu is almost borderline hard rock IMO, and might not be a bad choice.

Also:

Dissappear
Another Day
Hollow Years

And a few others that have been listed.
