They are absolutely crushing Trial Of Tears right now.
MM and JM are in the zone.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

?

I just watched the whole DVD, including the extras. :) Although I liked Luna Park more than most, I think BTFW fixes the few problems LALP had (unbalanced mix, lack of crowd noise) and has an even better setlist. The orchestra and choir are used well - not too overpowering, but not unnoticeable either. James isn't as perfect as I expected him to be, but he kicks ass on the Awake songs and this is still one of his strongest DVD performances. JP's tone is kind of muddy on the 7-string songs, but that's what it sounded like in the concert I saw and the YT live videos I've watched, so I knew what to expect. MM is fun to watch, and I don't understand people who whine about him being boring compared to MP. JMX is JMX and Jordan is Jordan... His face at the end of Overture kind of creeped me out, though! :lol

I would've appreciated more extras, but I'm happy about the inclusion of the EM animation, because I had trouble following it back in February. All in all, I'm very satisfied with BTFW, and it might just be my favorite live release now. :tup

One of my favourite parts of the gig, including both times I saw them. It's a shame the DVD wasn't filmed later in the tour as they've recently started expanding it. Check this out from the Argentina gig, they all launch into this improv for a few minutes and then come back round.

It's awesome. Made me grin like a madman. Starts at 2:15ish.

That is amazing.
I'm hoping they're doing something like they used to do with the intro to The Mirror back in the I&W tour days, and this ends up being expanded into a full song on the next album.

Dear God in Heaven.  After one viewing, I think this is EASILY their best live release.

Of course, I realize that part of that is coming from my love of Awake, SFAM, and DT12.  If one or more of those is not your cup of tea, I could understand not liking this one as much.

But for me, the setlist was out of this world, the visual aspect was fantastic, the band sounds incredible, and the performances are off the charts.

Wow, that is so cool. I hope they get back to that for the next album, very atmospheric and melodic!

Yep. It may not actually be improv and it could be some new material! I hope it is because I love it.

I don't think we agree very often. But this time...  :tup

Progressive Metal Fusion

I totally agree with you hef!
Is from September 30th that I only listen to this DVD (and lately I'm listening to an unimaginable amount of good new music).
Absolutely wonderful stuff, I'm speechless.

That's a good sign and makes me hopeful for more spontaneity and experimentation on future tours.

I agree with Hef that this is definitely their best live release.  It's the type of setlist I had hoped for at the Score show.  Not that it's perfect but it's damn good.

Why do people like The Shattered Fortress so much on this?  Am I missing some of the appeal because I am visually impaired?  (I saw a comment about MM being fun to watch on that song) I tried listening to the audio from the beginning while at the gym but after The Enemy Inside I skipped to Breaking All Illusions.

Damn, that was awesome. That seems to be the part of the show that has changed the most since it began in January.

I can be spotted in two live DT releases now (Dream and Day Re-Unite being the other instance).  Good times!

I was sooooo bummed with that LA show for WDADU.  I was 2nd row, probably 3 seats left of center, and not once can you see me good.... :lol  Where are you at in that one?

That show was KILLER, so I'll assume you mean you were bummed with the DVD.   DT didn't announce beforehand or during the show that they were recording a DVD.  I can spotted once rocking hard to the opening of Killing Hand.

Sometimes the crowd sounds piped in, but otherwise a great concert. I'd say Score is still LaBrie's finest moment.

I think Score is probably LaBrie's most consistent concert. But I've also heard mentions of certain parts being overdubbed. And besides, in terms of stage presence, I'd say LaBrie was at his all time worst in Score (among officially released video material). I mean, overall, it was pretty standard, but there were certain parts where he seemed so stiff for some reason.

I listen to the audio way more than watch the show, but his stage presence never bothered me. Neither does Hansi's of Blind Guardian who rarely moves from one spot.

I believe the live orchestra is playing over the pre-recorded orchestra track in the Illumination Theory section.  (52:16)

Finally got my copy of the DVD. Two songs in so far.

Holy shit.

Finally they get the live DVD they deserve.

It's not just the movement, I don't know what... The posture, I guess, he just looks... I don't know, weird in parts of Score.

How's the iTunes Download?

Anything about it I need to know it before I buy n d/l it?

I mean is it any good? Good mix? Everything clear?

Thanks

TheGreatPretender

The Blu-Ray + 3CD combo was too expensive, since it would've cost me $15 extra, so I got the regular Blu-Ray version, and for an audio version, I actually went with the HD Tracks version, which still ended up being cheaper overall for me than the BR3CD version.

In any case, the HD Tracks version is awesome, so I'd recommend that, but I can't comment on the iTunes version since I haven't heard it.

Woot! So far the best shot I found of myself.
And yes, I'm filming :lol

Sweater and all!

I'm too far in the dark underneath the balcony to see.

Awesome, even better shot. My brother will be pissed.

Now I'm wondering whether I should get the Blu-Ray, if it has better resolution!

If you squint really hard, you can see me, like, 500 miles to the West.

If Rumborak will permit me . . . adjusting my earplugs because it was frigging loud!

:lol That's awesome.

Seriously, I would have been very annoyed to not have been visible on this DVD, given the excellent seat I had. I'm already not visible on Score!!
