Has anyone seen this yet? Maybe I'm crazy, but this seems like the perfect shirt to not help with the MP-DT relationship.
:superdude:

Zydar

Why not? It's from a video animation on one of the songs they're playing on the current tour (I won't spoil it by mentioning the song).

BlobVanDam

Yeah, it's just from the current tour video, it has nothing to do with MP. It's pirate JLB vs the rest of the guys, isn't it?

GentlemanofDread

Yep! Great shirt (I own it, got it at the live show) and it's taken from one of the concert videos. MP has NOTHING to do with this at all. Just Pirate JLB vs Everyone else.

BlobVanDam

Also it's a play on Spy vs Spy.

All of the above + perhaps I could see your point if it was 5 vs 1 but it ain't.  Reading too much into it methinks.

Pretty cool shirt actually.

TAC

Wow that shirt is horrible. What does DT vs DT mean?
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

I don't even get it. Agreed, I'd never buy that.

Or any of the other shirts with the DT guy cartoons on them, frankly.

There's a shocker.

The discussion in this thread is facepalm-inducing.

I haven't been to a show yet, but they said it about 50 times that Enigma Machine is like a spy movie theme. Hard to figure out.

Nope, just you, buddy. :lol I've never read it. I just recognize it from other sources.

TAC

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Spy vs Spy.

But regardless, the shirt is still fugly.

Tim,  I am surprised you never read that before.

Hell I had a Spy vs. Spy video game!

mikeyd23

How would this shirt have anything remotely to do with the DT - MP relationship? Looks to me like it literally has absolutely nothing to do with that...

Also this shirt doesn't bother me, its not personally my style and I wouldn't pay concert shirt prices to own it, but I understand that it might be other peoples style, so its all good.  The only way these cartoon style DT shirts would bother me is if DT was only releasing cartoon shirts on this tour and nothing else.  But they aren't, there are several other non-cartoon shirts, so this doesn't bother me at all.

chaotic_ripper

He prob hasn't seen the video and thought that it was MP on the side instead of JLB.  Even though that doesn't make any sense, and they wouldn't do anything like that.

Tell me about it, dude.  Do people really think that this shirt was somehow meant to pit MP-era DT and MM-era DT against each other?

rumborak

I might be the only one who thinks this is actually an improvement to their usual shirts. Still wouldn't buy it, but at least it seems to have had more thought in it than the "throw album cover on shirt" ones.

Rattlehead

It's a funny shirt, but there's no way in hell I'd ever wear it  :lol Then again I am extremely picky with band t-shirts and hardly wear them at all any more.

I like this one specifically because it doesn't look like a band shirt. Just put a jacket on over it. It's cool.

Yeah, it really doesn't... and I'd imagine if you had a jacket on (obviously covering the name on the back), you'd get a lot of stares from people like "...what the hell is DT vs DT?"  :lol

*raises hand*

I was a big fan of the magazine and instantly got the reference when I saw a concert video of Enigma Machine. I even pointed it out in another thread last week and no one seemed to know what I was talking about.  :lol

Zook

OK, it's a play on Spy vs Spy. I still don't get it. Why is it 4 against 1? The 4 instrumentalists vs the vocalist? DT vs DT sounds kinda dumb.

I do like the original cartoon tee though.

Just split Myung in two like a fortune cookie and we can make it 2 vs. 2.

That's true of any Dream Theater shirt! "Why are you wearing a young girl in her bedroom? What's a Dream Theater? Is that in London?"

Nope, it has nothing whatsoever to do with MP. Watch the animation for EM and it'll all make sense.  :D

It's an awesome animation... possibly my favourite one that's been done for the band so far.

I don't even know what Spy vs Spy is, so yeah, the meaning is completely lost on me.

Yes, because it's an animation that plays during an instrumental track that is reminiscent of spy films. I'm not going to spoil it, but it probably makes more sense if you've seen them live on this tour, or at least seen the animation.

QuoteDT vs DT sounds kinda dumb.

Me either, and after googling it, I would think if you reference something on such an item, it should be something a little less.... obscure/random.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Spy vs Spy was not obscure in its day and was very popular in both Mad Magazine and its own comic books. By the time the 70's rolled around there were even Spy vs Spy animated shorts on Saturday morning television in the U.S. I guess you just need to be old enough to appreciate the reference. I think it's great and would buy the T shirt if DT were coming to my town on this tour.
