Songs That Would Have Caused Quite The Stir On I&W

Basically, this is something that Gentleman Of Dread and I have been speculating in the last few minutes, based on RobWester's comments in the Controversial Opinions thread, discussing what the impact of TDEN would have been had it been on IAW.

What songs would you think would have caused the most impact/confusion/reaction/general-death-error if they had been on Images And Words?

This isn't really a "What would you have wanted I&W to have been if it had been made from any possible DT song currently existing?" but more of a general "Wouldn't it have been amazing/funny if these songs had been there instead?" thing.

GentlemanofDread

Just hit me during the time it took for me to realise we were doing this. What if.. The Glass Prison had been on Images and Words? Imagine the reaction to such a heavy aggressive song in 1992!

Imagine if On The Backs Of Angels was put on I&W after Pull Me Under, and Lost Not Forgotten after Under A Glass Moon. It would be like a Prog AC DC album

GentlemanofDread

Man, LNF after Under a Glass Moon would be a snug little fit.
Imagine if instead of Learning to Live, you got In The Name Of God!

I Touch Myself should have opened Images And Words, it would give Pull Me Under a whole new meaning.

Don't know why but I instinctively thought about TGP too!!!!!!

Zyzzyva17

Sacrificed Sons would have been interesting on IAW, considering the lyrical content. Not the type of stir you meant, but still.

A Nightmare to Remember just fits well everywhere.

That would actually be pretty damn hilarious.  Close the album with it - Learning to Live straight into ANTR.  Talk about causing a stir.   :lol

Yeah, actually, Nightmare would kinda be an awesome addition to Images. Wouldn't fit AT ALL, but it would make it a more diverse album and certainly cause issues for the Nightmare-haters. And, since it's actually one of the band's best songs, it wouldn't detract too much from the album.

Hmm. I think it would also be rather amusing if Illumination Theory was on there, considering that that entire song would be quite alien to the DT fans of 1991. It's a heavy song and longer than anything else they'd done to date, but it also has that ambient/symphonic section.

Good that, back in the day, DT was on their peak and would not write silly songs like ANTR or IT  :xbones

back in the day, DT was on their peak, but would still go on to write more masterpieces like ANTR or IT

Gotta say Blob, sometimes you really fail at choosing which songs to like and hate.   :-*
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

And this is not one of those times!

I think I might need to post "there's no such thing as a weak song on I&W" in the Controversial Opinions thread............I can't recall seeing songs like LTL, UAGM,TTT etc... getting seriously bagged by more than the odd ( slightly disturbed) DT fan  ;D ...until this thread.

If you've never seen it before, then why would you need to post that in the controversial opinion thread?

bl5150

I was being tongue in cheek Blob..............but implying that there is , in this thread , enough criticism of I&W tracks to make me think there may be a  less universal love for I&W (as a whole) amongst DT diehards than I thought.  That's all.

King Postwhore

As time goes on most newer fans look at older albums as dated and like the "Newer" sound a band has.  Hell I did it with a lot of bands from the 60's and 70's.

I adore everything else on IAW, and even love most of LTL, I just think it's overall by far the weakest on the album, and would take Outcrier's mentinoed songs of ANTR or IT over it any day.
And the overreaction to every time I share a "controversial" opinion gets tiresome very quickly too.

I wasn't referring to you specifically Blob but the whole thread (as stated)  - so not sure how I'm overreacting.   Getting a handle on your musical taste is a mystery I am yet to solve  , but having said that I think my taste is far more on the margin around here than most.........likely due to my fogey-ness....... so having "controversial opinions" is not something I am critical of at all.

As far as similar musical tastes go, you'd be in the top 5 - 10 matches with me on this forum, which is kind of sad. :lol

I don't think it counts as fixing when it's incorrect. ;)

How about Just Let Me Breathe?  Imagine JLMB coming on immediately after Take the Time.   :lol
