I actually quoted this as part of a journal assignment I had, I remember checking the DT12 booklet numorous times to see if it was joy in life or you're alive.

I still don't know. Even after hearing it last night, I'm sure I heard 'joy in life' but the studio version to me is '...you're alive'

I'm still confused.

That chapter starts with " To really feel the joy in life "

and ends with " You'll never know that you're alive. "

What the hell.  Open your ears everyone, James cleary says 'know that you're alive.'   If he is saying 'joy in life' he must have one hell of a speech impediment.

Listen to 17:20, the one before the climax, James clearly says 'you're alive'.  And then listen to 17:27, you can hear the 't' on the end of the word 'that', then he says 'alive'.  The alive is a little less clear because of what he is doing with the notes, but you can hear it's 'THAT YOU'RE ALIVE'.

Yeah, The Looking Glass came on at my mates place the other day and I jokingly sang along 'digging up a coal mine' only to discover that my friend actually thought those were the words. We talked about Coal mine not making a lot of sense and he commented how he couldn't here the 'd' sound at the end of 'gold mine'.

I also can't unhear 'debate this faggots just cause'.

I have to say that the whole 'joy in life' seems like it's getting confused from the first line that actually does say that. As for Noble and brave, I needed that one corrected because I was hearing noble embrace. xD

Why are people so surprised that people are mishearing the lyrics? Have you never heard something wrong the first time and then continually heard it wrong upon further listens? It's a pretty common phenomenon.

ReaPsTA

I thought it was know the joy in life too.

Know that you're alive is a much better/much more meaningful line.

I love this song so much.

Exactly... especially since the way the phrases are pronounced is very similar and the meaning is essentially interchangeable in this context.

I heard the "know that you're alive" while listening to IT for the first time ever today. So long "know the joy in life".  :lol

Hey hey, don't drift off the subject.

But has he gone too far?

A gallup snapshot poll taken earlier today shows that half of DTF'ers think this post is humorous, twenty-five percent do not, and still another twenty-five percent aren't sure what to think.

Guys, enough is enough. Remember life is hanging in the balance You just have reached the turning point.

RoeDent

It sounds very much like "know the joy in life" to me.

MirzekDT

I've heard "Never know that you're alive" from the first time and it doesn't sound like joy in life unless I really want to hear it there. But I understand why some people may hear it there, the first moment is probably important because it will influence what you will hear next time a lot, unless you will read the lyrics :)
