Ok so the chick is hot but she dropped the looking glass!  She had one job and she screwed it up.

Heck, most of the male members here make vaguely homoerotic comments about DT from time to time.

comments... and probably actions if we were all in a room together. Especially with Zydar :zydar:

And her acting is awful :lol

That was actually one of the better recent DT videos IMO. The little musical accents in the music are getting highlighted everywhere and it works. I don't think this is one of their strongest tracks but it was a fun watch and the video totally fit the vibe of what the song was going for.

Aythesryche

Just watched it and I liked it! Glad I got to see the Majesty up close yet again. I can't wait till March when I hopefully get mine! This is definitely DTs nicest music video. Was nice to see JPs solo almost completely in time with the vid, too!

(sidebar) I understand where most guys are coming from when it comes to gawking at women and such. It's just one of those primal instincts that's been ingrained in our genome for over a hundred grand years. Personally, I never really got worked up solely over a girls looks before. I've been a fashion photographer for quite a few years, photographing girls from Marylin, Ford, Elite, Page 305, Storm etc modeling agencies and I always had a cool, almost uncaring composure. I'd hang out in dressing rooms helping with hair/makeup with almost completely nude models/supermodels and it never really phased me. I suppose that made me good at my job.  People have often accused me of being gay on more than one occasion haha. This girl in the video just looks like a normal girl to me.

Sorry to hear that dude, sucks but I guess someone has to do it.  Thanks for taking one for the team.....

I really liked this video, most Dream Theater videos are awful but this was pretty good. Most of the time I hate music videos, but I might watch this once or twice more.  :lol

So, the Looking Glass is actually a crystal ball?

I don't want to get flamed for this but I'm still accustomed to see Mike Portnoy in the DT music videos, so this was kind of a strange feeling. Mike Mangini did appear in the OtBOA video, but it didn't show him very long compared to the rest of the members of the band.

yeah_93

It's not a bad video but the sections with the girl and the ball were kind of weird.

Pretty good video for THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM.

Nice drumming.

FTFY.
I'm glad you like it, but for me it is 9th out of 9 on this album.

I love this jam-in-the-room style of music video.  They are cheap to produce and edit and show the band doing what they do.

I really think DT should stop trying to be "existential" or "over-thought" with their videos.  To me they rarely "work" and a lot more money is unecessarily spent making them.  This video didn't need the girl with the Palantir at all.  Granted, I doubt she was as expensive as all the stuff they put into the Backs of Angels video or the Jedi in the Rite of Passage video, but I wish they'd just keep it simple.  Wither is also a great video... just live shots of the band and fans, no silly acting or props, just DT being DT.

I'd be willing to bet that filming DT playing The Enemy Inside in-studio and editing it would have been cheaper than the lyric video they did and certainly cheaper than the full version.  These two videos got the music out but didn't show anyone who the band is, and that's a mistake IMHO when you're gaining popularity with each album.

Take a look at the Winery Dogs videos for Elevate and Desire... just the guys playing and some slick editing.  I probably would have missed this band without these simple videos... and they were both shot in one day, I believe, with one outfit change, and they are both great.  Indifferent by Adrenaline Mob would have been cooler with them just playing out in the desert without the cornball acting.  Stryper did it right.

That's all these types musicians need.  They don't need thugs with shorties jumping around raining $100 bills or 50 background dancers or elaborate dramatic scenes.  Just show the world them playing to their music and kicking ass.  LET THEM PLAY!  LET THEM PLAY!  LET THEM PLAY!

I know, right? It should be a mirror. DT definitely doesn't have enough mirrors in their songs.

Were they actively trying to avoid JM? Outside of the middle break part, he is virtually nonexistent in the video.

I thought the video was great. My only complaint would be Jame's awkwardly singing in the middle, but it only caught my attention a couple of times.

Hey PF!

I get what you are saying.  I think Wither might be my favorite video but this one is a close second.  Both videos are more personal.  Even with the Sarumanette, it's still a really good clip.  Maybe they should have James throw down a chair again.   ;)

I like the Bad News Bears reference by the way.

I thought he was quite present (especially if we're counting close-ups of his hands playing the bass), especially considering he's infamous for just standing there and doing his thing without expression.

On an unrelated note, prog fans really do over-analyze these things to death. :lol

RaiseTheKnife

Cool video, but the editing choices mostly annoyed me.  Felt the editor missed in capturing some of the more interesting nuggets of the song.  It was hard for me to absorb each members performance  due to all the hyperkinetic jumping from shot to shot.   Video has a good energy to it though.

adastra

That's what I call a good music video! damn!

Yeah, that's what's surprising me because it shouldn't be happening, along with all those other "John Petrucci should cut his hair" moments :lol on the risk that I'm misread and declared a man hater, it's really a male issue. Lesbians and bi women can recognize when the situation is not sexual and when the women aren't there for them to gawk at, but when a man has that rare quality, like Aythesryche who took pictures of models, he's accused of being gay because people can not imagine a straight man not being phased about pretty women that are in his purview.

Just to balance out the other side, Mike Mangini is really really hot. And not, like, 50-year-old-man-hot, more like a rugged-30-year-old-man-hot  :hat

Yeah, and after that she's not seen any more. The band must have been like "really? Get the hell out of here".

GasparXR

Don't you get it guys? We're all drooling over her being hot, and then soon we will forget, and her 15 minutes will have expired. The breaking of the crystal ball is symbolism of that. :hat

What's with JR's shaving accident on his head? They couldn't cover that for the video shoot?

I was wondering that same thing.  Maybe a piece of the looking glass nicked his head when it shattered.

MrBoom_shack-a-lack

Maybe someone was late for the wee early morning shoot which led to a 6 degree of failed shave.

Yea OK that was bad!
