So which member of the band, past and present, do you think would most likely write a book about themselves?

For past members, MP is the most obvious choice. As for present, I could see JR writing something about his life.

What do you think?

My memory may be failing me, but I think MP once said he may write an autobiography some day, which isn't surprising.

I´d vote for Mung as well, but can´t see it happening. It´s more likely that JP or JR will do it some time down the track.

Seriously though. I'd love to read a JMX autobiography. It seems like the quietest band members have the best insight... Look at Nick Mason's "Inside Out". From what I heard, his original draft was amazing until Gilmour and Waters raped all the interesting shit out of it.

The only thing JM would have to say after publishing his autobiography would be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysDXYr-KTs8#t=59s

I'd like to know how he created that bass solo in a bass solo.

Haha... never seen this before! That was awesome.  ;D

I'd only really be curious to read MP's autobio.

I know that "JM's wisdom" has meme status, but honestly, I've never heard him say anything interesting, insightful or memorable in any of the interviews I've come across.

I'd be interested in a Kevin Moore book, but more in a "Into the Wild" kind of way.

I'm inclined to agree. In my impression the reputation hinges on the LtL lyrics, which are now 21 years in the past.

I agree that biographies by the quieter members of bands tend to be more revealing.  The "spokesperson" of a band that does all the interviews often is so used to rehashing the same old stories that their memoirs seem to just be more of the same.

Mebert78

Portnoy would be the most likely.  I'd love to read a Kevin Moore one though.

I bought a book by Kevin Moore once, but I couldn't get it open.

I'd love reading a Kevin Moore or John Myung book. John's would be the most interesting, by far. What could he think about what was going on with the band during the early years? What about in the 2000s? It would be pretty revealing to know.

RodrigoAltaf

Kevin Moore´s autobio would be interesting for me, but only the chapter(s) when he addresses his time with Dream Theater. Derek, on the other hand, wold have A LOT more to share, and would be funnier too.

Prog Snob

This is true about KM.   I'd be curious about his side of leaving DT.  This is the same reason I would love to read an autobio about MP.

You're right.  A Myung book would be interesting too -- and even if it weren't an autobiography.  I really enjoy his meditative lyrics and his way of thinking, so a whole book written by him would be a pretty enlightening read.
