And if so, where should it be filmed and what should it include?

Yes, I'd like a DVD release
No, I don't want a DVD release
I don't care either way
It should be filmed in MONTREAL
It should be filmed in LONDON
It should be filmed in AUSTRALIA
It should be filmed ELSEWHERE (please specify)
I would like to see WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE in its entirety
I would like to see AWAKE in its entirety
I would like to see SCENES FROM A MEMORY in its entirety
I would like to see DREAM THEATER in its entirety
I would like to see a mixed setlist with nods to certain anniversaries
I would like to see a completely balanced setlist with no anniversary celebrations whatsoever

I thought it'd be interesting to see what people's thoughts are on any potential DVD release from the upcoming world tour. With all the discussion of anniversaries, I wondered if anybody would actually like to see a certain album celebrated on film?

You have three votes:

1. Would you like a DVD from the upcoming tour?

2. If so, where would you like to see it filmed (I've taken a couple of suggestions that came up in the most recent DT live chat)

3. What kind of setlist would you like to see on DVD? Bear in mind that this need not mean you'd see this set at your show, just that it would be the setlist for the special DVD show. This question assumes that the band will play at most one album in its entirety, so pick your favourite if that's the kind of setlist you'd like to see on DVD.

Yes, I'd like a DVD release - I'd like a DVD release of every tour. The more the merrier! :lol And after LALP, I want more of that documented. I really don't expect it though given how late LALP came out.

It should be filmed in AUSTRALIA - Purely selfish reasons here on my part. It would mean that DT would actually play in Australia. :P And also this way they can go for a live release from every continent.

I would like to see a completely balanced setlist with no anniversary celebrations whatsoever - I have no interest in hearing Awake in its entirely, and we already have a definitive live version of SFAM, and their live DVDs always have a good mix of the current album of the time anyway.

I'd be happy for another show like LALP. As long as it has good performance, good production, and a good setlist, that's all I need.

I think there's a reasonable chance - the band seem so pumped about the new album that I reckon they'll want to record it in some way.

1. Would you like a DVD from the upcoming tour?

Yes!  It's a great way to relive the memory of the tour.  I've loved their past live releases, for the most part.

2. If so, where would you like to see it filmed (I've taken a couple of suggestions that came up in the most recent DT live chat)

Don't care.  Didn't vote this option.  It would be great to see it filmed at a show I personally am able to attend, but the realistic odds aren't very high, so whatever.

3. What kind of setlist would you like to see on DVD? Bear in mind that this need not mean you'd see this set at your show, just that it would be the setlist for the special DVD show. I don't really want an anniversary show, but other than that, I don't care.  We'll likely get a huge dose of the new album because DT have always well-supported their new releases in their live sets.  I don't particularly want to see the entire album, but I'd love to see most of it, and I'm sure we would get most of it.  They did all of WDADU for its anniversary show during the TOT tour, and we have a live release of it, so no need to do it again.  SFAM needed to be done since, as a concept album, the complete story needed to be presented live.  But they've done it.  No need to do it again.  There is no need whatsoever to do another album in its entirety.  That's too lopsided a set.

?

A live DVD filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in London would be really cool. I'd love to see a full performance of Awake, but I'd be ok with a more balanced setlist with some nods to the album anniversaries.

Good point, although bands are always excited about their latest album, so I'm not sure if that will affect it as a business decision. But I hope you're right! I'd be happy with a live release from every tour. They change up their setlist enough each tour that there wouldn't be much repetition.

That's exactly what I had in mind when I was thinking about this thread. :lol

I can't tell you how happy it would make me to see Awake in its entirety.  Of course, I think it's completely impossible, or at least unconsidered. DT is in a different era than it was during the Awake era, and frankly, their fanbase at large (or at least their perception of it) is more focused on their "newer" style of music and catalog.  So it's much more likely we're to see DT12 in its entirety, which I wouldn't hate either.  Also, of course, I can't imagine DT suddenly taking up playing SDV after committing to avoiding it live for so many years.

But yeah, voted for Awake entirely and don't mind DVD either way.

Anguyen92

A DVD release of a show in London would more than all right.

As for the setlist, a mixture of all the goods would be all right (a little leaning towards the self-title.  If they play five songs from it, and it's the most songs from any one album, that would be good enough).

Zydar

Yes, I'd like a DVD release - I love concert DVDs and I'd like them to release one from every tour.
It should be filmed ELSEWHERE (please specify) - It doesn't really matter, but I wouldn't be sad if they filmed the February show in Stockholm I'll be attending ;)
I would like to see DREAM THEATER in its entirety - I have no interest in getting the entire Awake album live, and we already have LSFNY and WDADRU, but it would be cool to have the entire DT12.

There should be one, don't care where it's filmed (within reason), and think they should do Awake and DT12 in their entirety if they are going to do something of the sort.

KevShmev

Yes, I'd like to see a DVD of the upcoming tour.

I don't care about them playing full albums, but I'd love to finally see The Mirror/Lie combo get played and make it on to an official release.  Or if nothing else, The Mirror with the Mirror reprise from the end of Lie (similar to how it was played on the Scenes tour, but minus JR's needless wanking that ruined the vibe of the ending of The Mirror).

Agreed on all points.

I'd like a live release from every tour! However, I would like the option of being able to purchase CDs of the audio separate from the videos (as was the case with OiaL, LSFNY, L@B and Score).

Actually, I think it should be filmed in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl. That would be a cool show. However, barring the costs and likely that the venue is too big as of now (for DT's audience in southern CA), I think it would be cool to see them filmed in a place like Italy, where fans are absolutely bonkers. Or maybe in Oz, just for Blob.   :)

Mixed setlist with a nod to the anniversaries. As much as I love WDaDU, we don't need to see it in its entirety because we already have WDaDR. We don't need another full live version of SFaM because we already have LSFNY. With Awake, we really don't need the full album played front to back because almost everything from the album has been played with some regularity. And with DT12, I'd rather not have the whole album on one live release unless it was a concept album. Keep a few tracks saved for a live release in the future.

If the band insisted on playing one album in its entirety, then I would pick Awake. I only hope that if they did so, that they would change things up a bit to make it fresh and new (having a different keyboardist and drummer in and of itself doesn't make it fresh or new). Otherwise, I might as well just listen to the studio album.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

If they played all of Awake, we would then have to endure tons of "Waaaah, but they played three of the songs from it on the last DVD!" posts.  :\ :lol

I think they should play Scarred and dedicate it to Blob.

dparrott

DVD? yes.  Where?  Don't care.  What?  DT12 in whole would be good, but a mix is also good.

TheGreatPretender

I definitely want a DVD. If they end up playing Enigma Machine live, I want to see it. Over and over again.

JayOctavarium

Yes.

They should play Awake and DT12 in full (even though i dislike DT12) and encore with EasterEgg / TTT/ Finally Free

And it should be filmed in the LA area... either at the Greek Theatre or Santa Barbara Bowl (or Hollywood Bowl but as Scotty mentiioned... too big of a venue for DT to fill)

son_ov_hades

I don't care about live videos. They're cool and all, but I'll only watch it once and then forget about it. Now a live album is a totally different story, I LOVE those and it they put it out on vinyl it would be a dream come true. I'm still pissed Luna Park isn't on wax, sure it'd be like 5LPs and cost 100 dollars or something but I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I want them to play When Dream And Day Unite, Awake, And Scenes From A Memory in their entirety .

TAC

Live album (no DVD) +1.  More ways to listen to it than sitting in front of a TV/computer.

Or, they could have a live album DVD, AND an audio version, so that those who want to see it still can. It's not just about listening to the music, it's about seeing them perform the songs. That's half the awesomeness of live albums.

So much truth. I prefer listening to music than watching it. As long at the audio is available separately from the video(another reason Luna Park pisses me off), I'm fine with a dvd or blu ray.

Jinx

I would be shocked if they didnt release a DVD/Blu ray for their own self titled album. It will be on the 2nd leg or towards the end of the tour though I wouldve thought.

lonestar

A DVD will be filmed. And even though SF fans are boring as fuck for the most part, it should be filmed there.

And I guarandamntee they will play DT12 in its entirety.

I think it'd be very cool if they did a show in Australia. Then we can see Blob!

RoeDent

Don't care either way, tbh. If they do make one, great. If not, it doesn't matter. I don't really get excited over live albums/DVDs tbh.

On the subject of complete album playthroughs, they will most probably do DT12, but with all the songs scattered throughout the show, and not necessarily in album order. To me, that's not an album playthrough. An album playthrough is when a band plays an album non-stop, in order, from beginning to end. With that in mind, the most likely option would be Awake. They already did WDADU (on the When Dream and Day Reunite DVD) and SFAM (Live Scenes/Metropolis 2000). And they would only do Awake a few times (or maybe even just once) around the actual anniversary (assuming they will still actually be touring in October).

The Curious Orange

I'd like to see a DVD, but I'd rather have a live CD, properly mixed (not just a grab of the DVD soundtrack), and available seperately, rather than only as part of a deluxe set (Like CiM and LALP).

And if we're dreaming, it should have Count of Tuscany on it. And be fimed at Wolves Civic.

(Everytime I see Chaos In Motion abbreviated to CiM, I can't help but think of the other thing that stands for...)

hefdaddy42

Yes, I want a DVD, since they forgot that the South exists for this tour leg.

I voted filmed elsewhere, honestly though it really wouldn't matter to me where it was filmed.

Mixed set list with nod to anniversaries.

Cause that's the show I'll be at. :p

Theme Dreater

Yes, I do want a DVD from the upcoming tour to be released! I voted for it to be recorded in Montreal because that would be sort of cool for James, considering he hails from Canada and I don't think they've recorded a DVD in his home country yet. As far as the setlist, I would honestly like to see a mixed setlist with nods to various anniversaries. I think it would be cool to feature at least a song off every album, a few more than that off the anniversary albums, and most of DT12, if not all of it, since it's their newest release. I would be extremely happy to see a full 3 DVD release, to cover both as much of the Evening With shows as possible, and some excellent bonus features.
