And if so, where should it be filmed and what should it include?

Yes, I'd like a DVD release
No, I don't want a DVD release
I don't care either way
It should be filmed in MONTREAL
It should be filmed in LONDON
It should be filmed in AUSTRALIA
It should be filmed ELSEWHERE (please specify)
I would like to see WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE in its entirety
I would like to see AWAKE in its entirety
I would like to see SCENES FROM A MEMORY in its entirety
I would like to see DREAM THEATER in its entirety
I would like to see a mixed setlist with nods to certain anniversaries
I would like to see a completely balanced setlist with no anniversary celebrations whatsoever

The tackle wasn't caught on camera, and neither was JLB's fall off-stage during BITS!! I really wish they were though.. I love seeing screw-ups of my favorite bands.. Is that evil of me?  :blush

Also, I'll never understand this idea that people have that no video is better than video. I like watching and pretending I'm at the concert, even if only for just a few minutes at a time, and then I do something else with the sound still on. And when an awesome note or part is coming up, I always switch tabs or turn around to my TV and stare at the video of whatever I'm watching if there is one.

I was referring to when he tripped over JP and fell during LNF, and then JP gets down on the floor with him and keeps playing while JLB keeps singing on the floor.  :lol

And... Really? For some reason I could have sworn I've seen footage of JM tackling JLB...

Hey, I'm right there with you, most of the time, when the video is actually edited. But I'm definitely not a fan of crappy cellphone cam bootleg footage. And sure, a still well placed camera would be better than that, but I don't like to pretend I'm in the nosebleed section anyway.  :lol
Honestly, with Audio, I can sometimes just close my eyes and see myself there in the front row, watching the show, and that's so much better than some wide shot of the entire stage.
Live albums are different, because it's almost like watching a music video (what with the different camera angles and stuff), except the music video is of the one quintessential thing you WANT to see, which is the band playing the music.

TheAtliator

Yea I know I'm just saying I wish there was footage of the other one too! Even though I hear it really wasn't very funny I can't help but want to see it.. And yea I still disagree with the video thing, I don't mind crappy cellphone footage, I will take it for what it's worth and enjoy however much I can see.

I'd understand if it was a special show or something, but in general, when you have a live album like LALP, why bother with crappy cellphone footage? I don't personally care if I see EVERY show from that whole tour, as long as I see ONE of the shows in best possible quality. So I'd rather take a full fledged concert DVD over static camera recording of every single show.

And again, are you sure there was no footage of that tackle? I swear I've seen it!

TheAtliator

I've only seen a picture. And I thought I asked about it once and the answer was that there was no video. I'd love to see it if there is!

If they played all of Awake, we would then have to endure tons of "Waaaah, but they played three of the songs from it on the last DVD!" posts.  :\ :lol

:lol

I think they should play Scarred and dedicate it to Blob.
Or SDV.

"We were going to dedicate this to its writer, Kevin Myrrh, who didn't want to go on the Awake terr, but we have an animator who hates this song so what the fuck."

Also, to butt into the conversation above, I wonder how far back official video archives go. I know MP has a rather extensive archive of his DT performances and it's probably safe to assume that the live video cameras were recording.

It would be cool to have an orchestra in some songs that we already have a lot of similar versions from. Learning to Live and Metropolis come to mind. Grab the songs, leave the flow of it, but play a lot of parts differently, with the orchestra doing some amazing stuff. They could even hit up Eren to do that type of work, since in my opinion he did amazingly on False Awakening Suite and Illumination Theory. And have the orchestra do some stuff (not like this "special occasion" re-composing, though") for SFaM's and Awake's anniversaries if they don't want to have them play the full show, like the string quartet did on LaLP.

Dream Theater blends really well with the orchestra stuff, more so when handled by Eren. Although Score's performance does come to mind, I'd like to see something a little (or a lot, for some cases) beyond that. Add this to playing it in the Royal Albert Hall with a lot fo visuals and a lot of HD cams around and you have yourself a very possible best Dream Theater DVD ever.

Grizz

They actually did a lot with Score though. Metropolis's enhancement is very good IMO.
I wish that the same could be said for Metallica's S&M...

Daso

They sure did, but I'm talking about a version where you can actually notice a lot of differences, even on a composition level, not only on the sense of having an orchestra do the backup strings and some few things more.

They did that on Score. I noticed lots of differences throughout. They added a lot of extra parts to SDOIT and Metropolis, and even a few bits to Octavarium, which already had an orchestra, and Vacant was orchestra only. Of course there's always the option to do more, but I think it would have had to be a full show with the orchestra to achieve that, rather than one set, and that would start getting much more expensive and timely to pull off.
And on the flipside, if you try making the orchestra deviate too much, you end up with something like Metallica's S&M where the orchestra doesn't even sound like it's playing the same song as the band. :lol

Judging from the text, it could be but it doesn't sound like it must be it.

It's 2014. It's Blu-Ray now, not DVD.

This! I lol'd so much when I heard JLB announce excitedly to the crowd at Luna Park that they were shooting a "DVD". Soooo 2001.

?

As I said in some other thread, it's great to get another DVD soon. It also makes me believe the new setlist will feature very few repeats from the ADTOE tour - not that it's surprising, but... :P

My hope is that they do a set list that rotates 2 or 3 songs with A/B sets, like they did last tour, and like Rush has done in tours past, but on the night of the filming, they cut out any repeats from LALP and/or any songs from ADTOE, and play ALL of the songs featured in the A/B setlists, possibly including all of the DT12 tracks they plan on performing this tour (if it isn't all of them).

Not everyone has a Blu Ray player or sees the need.

Yeah, but it is the standard now, so people might as well use the terminology. The picture quality is ridiculously better than a DVD, and it is the definitive replacement for it.

OsMosis2259

Yeah "we are shooting a live blu ray" doesn't sound good.

I bet most people still got the Luna Park DVD instead of blu ray anyway. A lot of people still haven't gotten a blu ray player.

Kotowboy

I hate that when a new format comes out - the previous format is seen as laughable - as if DVD is somehow unwatchable.

Like when VHS replaced Beta - it wasn't massively better - it was just newer.

I wouldn't say that at all.  It may be the newest format, and it is certainly better, but it has not become the "standard" yet.

Uh...VHS did not "replace" Beta.  They were competing formats.

But let's leave the techno snobbery and get back on topic, please.
