Prater once showed up on DTF to defend himself while pretending to be a third party and he trash-talks DT in YouTube comments to this day.

Honestly, not to bring up the whole Prater thing again, but what I find hilariously ironic is that he talks about how every time MP talked about him, he was angry and bitter and spit fire, but that's pretty much all I hear from Prater when referring to MP and DT. I think he did a fine job with what he did for the band, but every time he talks about them, he seems bitter and spiteful and makes it seem like the only good aspects of DT came from him. He just doesn't come off like a very pleasant person, and yet he constantly reminds us that he's just stating the facts.

Was it ever actually proven that that was Prater?  Just curious.  Just because a name was used from his myspace page doesn't automatically mean it was him.  A fan could have easily registered to make it look like him, just to make him look bad and the band look good.  On the internet, it could definitely happen.

That is true. My point is that even if it was a fan who came in here and tried to make David Prater look bad, they still very accurately portrayed his tone. At least consistent with the book.

Dammit, now I have this image in my head of Dream Theater being cartoon characters like in Metalocalypse, and David Prater being the main villain, haha.

After reading his posts (the style, the names, the details), his YouTube comments (which shows that he's active on the internet and still unable to let DT go) and the Lifting Shadows book, it still cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that it was Prater, but assuming the contrary is an even bigger leap of faith, so I'm going with the more plausible version. If it were just a(n incredibly well researched) fan trolling, why stop after merely three comments? He might have actually been the assistant engineer who he claimed to be, but why would he bother defending his coworker on the internet regarding an almost 20 year old issue?

Re-reading the posts, based on writing style alone, I have no doubt that it was him.
