I know the song was written by Portney and it was to emotional for him to play live, but I was wondering if maybe one day Dream Theater will play the song with their new drummer. The song is a master piece and I can see it having so much potential, and I don't mean to sound disrespectful or pushy. It was just a thought that's been lingering in my mind for a while:)

They used it in the "Take this for the pain" documentary, so it's definitely not 100% off limits. Still, I'd be surprised. I don't like it that much anyway, but the guitar solo should be part of Instrumedley II.

Probably won't play it live.  Nice poll btw.

Yeah they won't play it live, I don't think.

As for the poll...  :-\

Great song but I don't think they will play it live unfortunately.

God please no. Any other song off BC&SL I would rather hear in a setlist rather than TBOT.

DarkLord_Lalinc

I don't think it would be a good live song, to be honest. The 3 best live BC songs (Nightmare, Wither and Tuscany) have been played and that's enough from that album to be heard live, IMO. A Rite of Passage is boring and I'd rather hear The Glass Prison or This Dying Soul than The Shattered Fortress.

That's strange.  Someone quoted the OP and added "Portney" underneath it, but the post appears to have disappeared.  I am really not sure how that quote took its place.    ???

The second option is actually winning pretty decisively.

Don't think we will hear it live but I am holding on to hope that one day JP may give us a little taste of the solo either during his solo spot or worked into a break in another song.  HOPEFULLY he knows how many people rank it pretty high is his portfolio of solo work.

Reminds me of pointless government questions on housing forms...

[1] How many people live in your household that have come from overseas in the last 2 years and are also looking to claim for children they have living with them that are from a different marriage to a person from the Uk or abroad in the last 12 months ?

[Yes / No]

Which is why I chose the first option.  I just don't think it is fair for what does they plan to do with the song!

We'll have to give the winner of the poll to Wey for the next video chat with the band.  This is THAT important.

In all seriousness, I don't see DT ever playing this one. It's far too personal to MP, and it hasn't been a live staple for a while like some others, TGP for instance.

mabowe

I didn't vote either way.  I know this song is very special to MP, BUT that outro solo MUST be played and heard live.  It would be a complete injustice if it wasn't, no matter who is behind the kit.

Seriously, though, I don't think they'll bring that song to their live performances.  Too personal to Portnoy.

I really don't think so the song was written by portnoy for his dad. Its a personal song that should only be played if mike was still with the band.

Where the hell Kevin Moore option on the poll?
