Great album. Charlie does a fine job, and the production really isn't that bad. Like a really really good sounding demo.

How does one know if they have the original or remaster?

wolfking

I love the album, every song is great.  The production is pretty lacking, but for what it is, it's awesome.

Cyclopssss

I concur completely with Wolfking...

My CD looks like this. I did some research and I found that One Way Records remastered the album. Was there a remaster before OWR did it because I bought my CD brand new, and Zia has more copies under Mechanic Records. I actually did own the digipak version but I believe that said Mechanic too.

wolfking

I think that's what mine looks like too.

You've got an original pressing (as do I). Definitely harder to find than the remaster - especially if you still have the long box (sadly I threw mine out after I ripped it open when I bought it in the summer of 89).
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Zia always has at least 3. I thought the digipak version was rare, that's why I bought it, although I've since traded it in. I think they still have a used green one, but I haven't seen any One Way Records versions.

... Now I want a remastered version.

ZKX-2099

I bought mine a like in 09 and it looks like that... and it was un opened.

As I posted in another thread recently, even with the poor production values, I still think this album is very good.  For me it definitely occupies the bottom 1/3 of my Dream Theater album rankings, but there are some very, very strong tunes on it.

cosmicwxdude

Thanks for your opinions everybody!!  I'll have to listen to it all eventually some day but that day is not today. For nothing else at least for curiosity's sake.  ;)

Looks like I have that version too, now that I bothered to dust off my copy.

Lowdz

I bought the cassette back in 89. My cd version is the digipack though it doesn't sound that much different to my ears. Don't think there was a booklet with it either if I remember it right.

wolfking

I have never seen a digi version of this album, only the jewel case.

Quite the opposite for me. I've only ever seen the digi version, and it's gold-stamped, numbered as one out of 10,000. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a liner notes booklet,it's just the case and the disc, and inside the digibook case are some notes, and credits and stuff on the back, but that's about it. It's nice, but it's slightly taller than a CD Jewel case so it doesn't fit in with the rest of my cases, so I've thought about getting a 2nd copy in Jewel Case format.

I hate when those type of digi's don't come with booklets.

Ditto, but in its defense, the case itself is made of VERY STURDY cardboard and it has a glossy finish, so it LOOKS and FEELS nice, but it lack substance and such.

I still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you unwrap it and realise what you see is what you get.

Aw man. So no awesome 80's pics of the band?

wolven74

When I first bought WDADU I was really weirded out because I'd been into the band since Images and I'd gotten up to Scenes, I think, before I got WDADU. At that point I listened to it and thought this isn't DT. Who the hell is that whiny guy singing? And the more I listened to it, I couldn't get over the production. Definitely an amateur effort there. The songs are really impressive, considering how young they were, but the production shows how inexperienced they were with the music biz.

The one I have is just a fold out cardboard thing. Like this

Zook

That's what mine looked like. Maybe I did have the remaster. Oh well.
