That makes sense to me and is a soundly professional attitude there from Thomas Lang.

In that sense though (and this I guess would be pure speculation) would there have been any of the auditionees actually hoped they wouldn't get the gig? I guess Marco would be the obvious answer. I wonder about maybe Derek Roddy too.

What a jam! With  a few asmall adjustments here and there it could have been a magnificent instrumental. Better than Enigma Machine for sure (I like that song actually). Also the mix was incredible except from the bass, which was too low. But the rest sound great. And the drum sound is so much better here than in the albums.  The jam had a strong classic-DT spiritual vibe from the old days. I wish they would do something like that in a future album. A little less structured, more spontaneous, yet more "truthful" and touching.

Jam is just over 13 minutes with the talking cut out.

I've had the video for some time now and watched it a few times and yeah, there's definitely some awesome passages in that jam.  It's too bad we couldn't get a board mix or something.

Man I wish the drums sounded this good in the releases...

Finally got to see it. Not sure I get the excitement I have to say. It's a jam, and jams all tend to sound pretty similar.

It's more than a jam. It's a one of a kind performance that was a part of what it took to assess that Mike Mangini would become the new drummer for Dream Theater. It's a piece of DT history, and we can actually watch it and listen to it.

They would. They're not Mike's drums

I would have loved to see TDOE, or especially ANTR (and see how they handle the MP section), but the jam was cool.
It definitely had hints of LTE/SFAM era stuff, and I miss a bit of that, although at the same time, it was just a rough unorganized jam. A few flashes of greatness, with a lot of messing around and playing different things.
