For me, it's absolutely got to be ACoS from Metropolis 2000, all the band members were absolutely firing, JLB absolutely KILLED it, they were at the most enjoyable time of the band's career, in my opinion, when JR was brand new (and still had hair), MP still enjoyed the band, and the band was still fresh and exciting. It's probably my favorite song, and the band just knocked it out of the park. I've listened to that particular live performance more than another DT song.

Er... can a mod move this to the DT forum?

I'd say Octavarium from Score. They are in all their highest point at what they are doing in this performance.

:lol The two first posts are probably the most divisive against each other

Both ACOS and 8VM are two of their best performances to date.  There's quite a lot from Score really.  Metropolis, Innocence Faded, even Afterlife, amazing performances.

Although, you can't really go past most of Live at the Marquee.

The Curious Orange

Elite

The Killing Hand from Live at the Marquee, hands down.

Yep, he killed it alright! :p He sounds really tired and straining by the end of that set, understandably.

If we're going by live performances on official releases, I don't know what I'd go with. For JR era, maybe Octavarium from Score, or Trial of Tears from Budokan? Both excellent.
For older ones, Take The Time from Live in Tokyo is killer. I watched that one endlessly when I first got that. Now I feel like watching it again!

This. Absolutely no contest.

This inspired me to watch that performance of ACOS again. I highly prefer it over the recorded studio version.

Agreed. Contenders for 2nd place are the entire first set of Score, and some selected tracks from Budokan such as Hollow Years. Actually all 5 of the bonus songs from Metropolis 2000 are stellar.

PixelDream

The bonus material from LSFNY is pretty much the best bonus material ever. I play those recordings way more than the SFAM part of the show.

TSCO on LSFNY.

TSCO on Score was a better version of that song.

With all due respect, TSCO in LSFNY, with the choir, Theresa Thomason and in the context that all SFAM was played that night makes this version an irreplaceable one and in my opinion the best.  :hefdaddy

I like the choir and Theresa, and to me that makes that version unforgettable, but I just feel that JLB's voice was so much better during Score.  He nailed TSCO perfectly, even better than he did in LaLP.

Same here, the proportion being probably around 50 to 1 in favour of the Non-SFAM part of the set.

Can't listen to either because I cry every time tbh I'm gonna turn into a big mushy pile when it comes up on LaLP :lol

I really hope you can't get past the breathing disaster, then. It shifts your attention out of the song itself in a fairly unpleasant way.

As for the best recorded version of TSCO, I would say tha Score is the best version, but LSFNY is the most beautiful. There's a difference between the two.  :tup

I can't figure out why they wouldn't fix that breathing in the beginning.

?

TSCO doesn't do anything to me, so I bet I'll skip it every time after the first view, even if the breathing won't bother me :lol

8va from Score and Hollow Years from LAB (Petrucci's solos) are my faves. Still waiting on Amazon for Luna Park and hopefully I can add to the list after I see it.

GasparXR

I can't pick one. Likely something from Score. LTL from SFNY is magnificent as well. New Millennium from LAB turned out really great as well. I really can't decide. :lol If I had to pick, maybe Octavarium from Score. Haven't seen LALP yet so I can't comment on that.

Yeah, this is what I always thought. At the same time, it's still very high on my list.

Well the rest of the band's performance is great, and JLB is fine on most of it, so I understand that. It doesn't help that ACOS has never been that high on my favourites anyway, but that was my first exposure to ACOS, and I enjoy it a lot more than the studio version. The rawness of that performance really works in its favour, I think.

JLB's voice was definitely better on Score, but the LSFNY version is still especially special for the reasons mentioned. Both worthwhile versions in their own way. And Score wasn't even his best performance of TSCO from the tour. The Santiago version was even better. :tup

I'm in the minority on ACOS from Metropolis 2000. It's great but to me the song is so perfect as it is on the studio version that every little flaw is hard for me to get by. Labrie is great on it especially for how late in the set it was but it just doesn't have that same atmosphere. My favorite DT performance would probably be any of the following.

Trial of Tears - Budokan
Lines in the Sand - OIALT
Another Hand/The Killing Hand - LatM
Octavarium - Score

Syzzle

Score - Octavarium

Nothing else in the history of music even comes close to beating it.

serrano

Octavarium and 6DOIT from Score are killers, i even prefer these recordings to the studio versions. I could only give LALP a couple of spins, but i'm very impressed with Metropolis.

6DOIT from Score is really close.
