I just woke up to see  DT's new cover photo on Facebook:

But the Grammy nominees haven't been announced yet, right? What does this mean?

Maybe that's what they've been submitted for? Or maybe they've spilled the beans prematurely? I'm hoping for the latter and that it is finalized. Not that Grammy's mean much in terms of who's the best, but they are notable accolades that do get noticed by the wider public, so for DT to actually win one (or better yet all of them) would definitely continue to widen their exposure to otherwise deaf ears.

So much this.

Pretty sure it's just that.
This. I'm 100% sure they won't get the rock album nomination, but it would be cool if they got the rest of those...

Prog Snob

It's sort of a way to promote the band throughout different arenas of media for people in the industry to be like, 'oh yeah, those guys.'

ZirconBlue

Yes, "for your consideration" ads are basically asking for a nomination.  Movie studios do them all the time to try to get Oscar attention.

This is absolutely 100% not what happened.

rumborak

That's a peculiar way of pitching this to the fans. A lot of people won't know this technical detail.

Onno

Ah, I didn't get that. Now I do. Thanks guys!

Kotowboy

Yeah they have to apply to be nominated.

Kinda like " For Your Consideration " movies for the Oscars.

Okay, but last time, all the guys in the band said that they were surprised when they found out they were nominated. So what does that mean? That someone else submitted them, like the label? Or have they always been submitting and just never got a nomination before that?

You can consciously try for something and still be surprised when it works out.  If I applied for a Rhodes scholarship or something, I'd definitely be surprised if it turned out I'd been awarded one.  DT was just surprised they got the nomination because it probably seemed (to them) to be a long shot.

And who knows how long they've been trying? RR might have been doing it since DT signed with them. If they'd been trying for years, then it would definitely be a surprise, even if you knew you'd submitted a song.
And now that they've gotten a nomination with OTBOA, it looks like they're pushing to continue to stay in the fold, rather than just let it be a one time blip.

But I do wonder whether it was their idea to submit for it in the first place, or whether it was something RR suggested.
