Ok, so now that the album has been out for a week I am very curious to know people's favorite single song on the album.  I THINK I set the poll so that you have to vote to see the results as well as allowing people to change their vote.  I think it would be interesting to see how this poll looks in a few weeks.  The option to change your vote is not so that people can re-pick the popular song, but as I listen to the album more and more my preferences have changed as far as the "Favorite song" is concerned.

When I say favorite I mean just that not neccessarily the one that is the popular "Best" or "Most technical" I mean the one you keep hitting replay on.

For me that is a real close tie between the bigger picture and the looking glass but I think The looking glass is the winner right now for me.

IT by a long way. It's the only song on the album that would get in my top 30 DT tracks.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Tom Bombadil

The Bigger Picture. It was my favorite after 1 listen and the gap has only widened since.

At the moment it's BTV for me. I can't hear that guitar solo enough.

I love them all. If I had to order them from most favorite to least favorite it would go something like this:

1. IT
2. BTV
3. TBP
4. EM
5. TLG
6. FAS
7. STR
8. TEI
9. AFTR

Every song on this album is strong. The order changes depending on my mood, with the top 3 changing the least. For me, this is the best album since I&W and Awake.

Right now I'll pick "The Bigger Picture" but my opinion will probably change over time.

Yep, pretty much.

It's the first DT album since forever which doesn't have any filler tracks, they're all really good. Along for the Ride is one of the few DT ballads which doesn't tip the cheesy scale for me. At this point, nearly all of them could qualify as my favorite, so I'm not voting yet.

The Letter M

"Illumination Theory". Sure, it's a bit cliched for a prog fan to enjoy the longest track on the album the most, but in this case, it's justifiable in that it's just jam packed full of great DT music!

The Bigger Picture.

It encompasses everything I love about Dream Theater. It's similar to, and a natural next step from SDOIT. It's like they've harnessed what was great about that album and compiled it into this song. TBP really turned me around on DT12. It's fantastic.

Right now, it's Behind The Veil.  I love the quiet into, and then the aggressive guitar riffs and the understated background keyboard vocals in the intro.  The song has a nice mix of aggressive and edgy on one hand, and melodic and upbeat, on the other.  Some really tasty work by the rythm section as well.

But I do have to say, it is not easy picking a favorite.  Right now at least, the album is feeling very consistent to me, with most of the songs on a pretty even level with one another (with the exception of The Enemy Inside, which I like, but consider to be the least strong on the album).

guys its on my mind for some time. is dt involved with freemasonry stuff??? ive found an interesting part in illumination theory, the final part where it says if u put ur trust in LOVE, if u listen carefully its LUST, not love, and u know the title is ILLUMINATION, which is related to illuminati, and it madewheme skeptic about them once again. actually they have a song about freemasonry but all of them didnt talk about it and explained it! u know, i wonder whether they believe in freemasonry and are freemasons or not, petrucci always claimed he is raised catholic and practiced catholic. any information about it would be appreciate, i know it might not be an appropriate place to discuss about that, but not unrelated!!

IT for me.... Too much greatness in that song! That being said it was still hard to pick a favorite, this album has very good consistency and is strong throughout, there were about 4 different songs I had to consider besides IT before finally choosing it as my favorite (BTV, TBP, STR, TLG).

?

At first it was Behind the Veil, but now I'd say The Bigger Picture is the best.

I am torn between The Bigger Picture and Illumination Theory, with a slight preference over the former. It still varies from day to day, and whenever I listen to either, I just go "this gotta be the best of the lot". Matter of fact, I'm witholding my vote.

The Bigger Picture  -  Just like BAI on the last cd, TBP hit me right away.  I have to say though that Behind the Veil has the potential to be a great live song.  As far as IT goes, it is a great song, but too chopped up especially the section before the orchestra.  For some reason it reminds me of the ending to TCOT.

Well, since this thread is about which song on the new album is people's favorite song, your point is completely unrelated and has nothing to do with the topic.

It's a tie between Surrender To Reason and Illumination Theory for now. Both songs even clicked 100% on the first listen.

Yep.

I'm torn between The Bigger Picture and IT but I had to go with TBP as of right now. Might change as time passes by though.
