Album would've been better with Derek (Blob's Option)

Saxman

Started listening to DT back in...2007. Don't remember if Systematic Chaos was out yet or not. So that puts me at DT being the 4th released since my fan-hood started.

I, personally, love the album. No real weak points, great catchy choruses/riffs/vocals/grooves. TBP is top 10-15 for me for sure, I keep going back to that song...but I'm a sucker for the slower, heavy chords, and emotional songs.

...what's not to like?

RoeDent

Discovered them as Black Clouds & Silver Linings came out, and I love DT12 with a passion!

Outcrier

I voted "Album would've been better with Derek (Blob's Option)" just for the LOLZ  :lol

The Stray Seed

Well... numbers say it all. 90% of DTF likes the album, both the old fans and the new. I think it's really a huge achievement considering how varied is DT fandom.

puppyonacid

Been a fan of DT since '93 (that's 1893). I've only listened to the new album a couple of times thus far (just the stream) as my birthday is jsut around the corner and my mum (gawd bless 'er) is purchasing the new album for me for my birthday.

That said, IT knocked my socks off in a way that no DT track has since the Scenes album.

Been there since I&W.. Think the new album is absolutely fantastic! I actually think ADTOE and DT, is the best two album run which compliment each other since I&W and Awake.. Both lots of albums balance light, heavy, prog and melodic, and do it in a way with a distinct sound. The last two albums have really been something else, after 3 efforts beforehand, which had some nice moments, but are toward the bottom of my DT favourite list..

Bertielee

Option 1 : been a fan since LatM (1993) and love the new album. Not a track I dislike and skip.

B.Lee

DreamerTV

Been with them since 2002, and i love it.

Cygnus17

Been a fan since Train of Thought and I this is my album of the year.  I love it.  May end up being my 2nd favorite over all behind Scenes.  I think its that good.

wasteland

Been a fan since the Chaos-Linings gap (Fall 2008) and I love it!

I agree.

Been a fan since just before I&W came out. I really loved ADTOE. I feel that DT12 has some cooler moments than ADTOE, but they are just that..moments. There is no song on DT12 that I would take over BAI, LNF, or even Outcry. Still DT 12 gets better with every listen.
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

and truthfully, I feel that ADTOE and DT are vast improvements over where we were in 09.

Rhayader

I'm veteran and I think it is the worst DT album.

nobloodyname

Veteran here, not really an option that suits my opinion: while I've grown to like it, I certainly don't love it.

Been a fan since I & W.

I love it..

Nice poll!!!!! I'm a veteran and I think it's a masterpiece.

This!

I think it touches on every aspect of DT's sounds as well as add some new stuff.

FracturedMirror

Voted for the "album would have been better with Derek" option.  I became a DT fan during the Derek era so I have a bit of a bias toward that era.

I really like the new album, but I don't know if I would say that I love it.  And I definitely don't fall into the "don't like it" camp.  Derek option was the only option.

Unfair poll IMO, veteran or new should be determined by years as fans not by albums.
The poll is using time, just measured in number of albums released you have been a fan instead of number of years you've been a fan.  What's the difference?

jammindude

Been a hard core DT fanboy now for 21 years, and I think this new one is one of their best.   (but I still think Octavarium is the greatest album they've ever done)

I've been a fan for pretty much the same time - and totally different strokes for different folks - but I just don't get this. I find 8V so ho-hum compared to thier other works. It's definately what makes the band so special - reaching thier fans on different levls with different albums and sounds..  :tup

Well, this thread basically proves the point a lot of us made early on - the popularity of this album isn't based on when people became fans. For both old and new fans, those who dislike it are around 10% of those who love it.
