Daybreak at the lake

Scenes has the greatest collection of melodies that DT has ever assembled. There is not a bland vocal melody on that album. This cannot be denied.

Outcrier

Interesting, let's see what's gonna happen in this thread.

Polarbear

?

I'd argue I&W has the strongest melodies, but SFAM is great in that regard as well. Overture 1928 alone is like a fountain of brilliant melodies :hefdaddy

I'd argue that we're splitting hairs, and that both have awesome melodies. :hat I'd throw in SDOIT too.

But I digress! As far as SFAM is concerned, I think the fact that it's a concept album that reuses a lot of musical themes probably helps make it more memorable melodically. You have TMW/THE, Regression/TSCO, OLT/FF etc.

It can and will be denied.

SFAM does not have DT's best melodies.

I agree, SFAM has best melodies followed close by IaW

JiM-Xtreme

It's definitely my favourite album, but not because of the melodies. My vote would go to Falling Into Infinity in that regard.

Ruba

Images and Words.

That's all I have to say.

King Postwhore

I & W as well.

I'll say that the new album has that uplifting feeling in many parts like I & W/

pain of occupation

haven't spun much of scenes in recent times, but threw fatal tragedy on for the drive home the other night and thought, *man, they wrote better riffs back then. but then again, scoring the entire album's riffage so high based just on the awesomeness that is the inspector gadget riff isn't fair.

oh, melodies? um, probably I&W.

efx

I'll throw my hat into the I&W ring as well.

Close with IAW. Not sure which is better.

In terms of melodicness, Six Degrees > Scenes > FII > Images

I'm just sitting here listening to Octavarium  ;D  ;D

FourthHorseman

Learning to Live has more great melodies than the whole SFAM album.

If we're talking melodies, I can think of one in that entire song that sticks out as a great melody (being the chorus). :P But that's just my opinion.

Anyways, I don't know if it's my favourite melodically, but it's up there.

This. Although, it has been many months since I've given FII a legitimate listen. To me, Six Degrees is their best effort.

PixelDream

I don't think SFAM is that strong in the vocal melody department. That's about the biggest gripe I have with the album. And if it's not the vocal melody, it's the sound of JLB's voice. I think he has many better records.

Thoughtspart3

I think it does have the most high quality melodies.  Not vocal but instrumental melodies.  Every instrumental section has a ton and the guitar solos are all well crafted and just sing.

I would have to deny that Scenes has the greatest collection of melodies that DT has ever assembled.

No, you can't. I said it can't be denied.

This is a convincing statement.  I don't know if I'll agree with you being the very best, but it's pretty close.

JediKnight1969

100% agree. The best DT album, and one of the best records ever made, by any band. Absolute masterpiece.

Well, perhaps, but the thread is specifically about the melodies, not just how "good" the album is as a whole.

SFAM does not have DT's best melodies.

Amen.

Anyway, for me SFAM is a great album, but it's not part of the DT albums I listen the most, which are Awake, I&W, 6DOIT and ToT.
THOSE albums have the best melodies!! :metal

But I never really was a big fan of "concept albums", maybe this is the reason... :loser:

And you must understand that that's why I'm here, as a french fan, and not anymore on the french fans site Your Majesty.
Out there, if you not consider SFAM as the greatest album of DT, you are hanged in public!!
