Interesting. As of today, ALL of DT's Roadrunner Releases are available on HD Tracks:
https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=artistdetail&id=9957

Listening to some clips, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds already sound WAY better. Especially Systematic Chaos.

That said, they're going to have to package these together and lower the price to get me to pull the trigger. They sound awesome, but no way am I gonna spend near $80 getting "Dream Theater: The Roadrunner Years" in High Def.

Now, $80 for a bluray set of the band's first 8 records in HD - that's something I'd definitely go for.

I don't even like Systematic Chaos at all...but I'm wondering if I'll like it a bit better if it wasn't so freaking HOT.    IMO, it is easily the worst mastered of all the DT albums, and is very close to being in Death Magnetic territory.

But I will briefly repeat what I asked in the other HD thread.   DR Database has rated the lossless LP rip even better than the HD tracks.   Has anyone heard it?

Weird...I just clicked it to double check, and all I got was the database ratings for each version of the album. :shrugs:

I love the LP version, but almost all of the pressings (maybe all?) have a serious mistake, in that TMOLS (which is on side 3) is pressed on the last side again instead of ITPOE Pt. 2, which is mistakenly omitted completely.

Even with the 10% off discount code, ordering all four albums still wouldn't be worth it... I agree, package all four albums for a lower price, say... $60, and I might bite the bullet on this one. Hearing HD versions of SC and BC&SL might be worth it, and reading the thread on the new album's HD tracks has been making me want it as well.

I'm using Turtle Beach x12's to listen to my stuff, would I even see a difference between the HD tracks and the CD? The only difference I'm hearing with the samples compared to the CD versions I already have are they seem quieter, like I have to adjust my volume higher to get the same sound as the CD version ones I have. I know that's because of the compression and such, but other than that I don't really notice a huge difference. Maybe these headphones just suck.

dparrott

OMG this is awesome, I'm planning to make a mix CD of the last four albums.  Now it can all be in HD instead of half!

Tempted to get SC as I own the other RR albums on CD.

Apparently... HD Tracks >>>> CD Tracks

So I've been told... then again, I got suckered in to buying the HD Tracks release of Vapor Trails and not more than 2 months later, they revealed there would be a CD of a DIFFERENT remix/remaster of the album...

The HD Vapor Trails is the same as the new one coming out and its the same as the Mastered for Itunes released recently.

chaotic_ripper

The new VT coming out is remixed. The one on HD tracks is not.

The Letter M

The one released on HD Tracks WAS remixed, different than the original and it sounds SO much better than the original. However, the NEW Remaster/Remix is even MORE different than that, and has, supposedly, even better sound.

Undoubtedly, even though VT is getting a CD remix/remaster release, there will be an HD Tracks release that's even More MORE better than that...

OMG all I have of the Roadrunner albums is the original CD. I want all of them, but I'm not going to drop $80 on them. Besides the new album, I particularly want to hear how BC&SL sounds. There were a lot of great Rudess parts that were buried in the mix, and maybe we can hear Myung, as Black Clouds is the worst album to try to hear what Myung is playing.

TheGreatPretender

Well, I already dropped $60, so I'm sure I'll get BCSL eventually as well.

Can't wait to listen to SC with high dynamic range. In that state, it might even beat out I&W as my second favorite DT album.

I purchased "Dream Theater" on HD Tracks tonight in ALAC form, because the instructions said that form was compatible with iTunes.
The album plays in iTunes, but will not sync to my iPod.

Any ideas?

Can you burn it to a CD and re-import as a format your iPod recognises ?

Sorry, I was too slow. I figured it out.

One album I would love to hear with a softer master is Octavarium... the title track isn't so bad, but to really crank up The Root Of All Evil... man i'd be in heaven. Don't see it happening though. Shame

Would the vinyl version of that album be a softer master? I mean, vinyls can't be mastered too hot, right? And they do remaster the vinyls before releasing them (or have been), so wouldn't the Vinyl satisfy that?

I had to create a AAC version of the files for them to load onto my iPod. Hope it doesn't lose the "fidelity" I paid for with HD Tracks.

Bolsters

I'll be honest, there are things I like about SC and BC&SL, even whole songs on them, but I'm not a big fan of either album. I won't drop this kind of cash on HDTracks versions of them when I barely listen to the CD master.

On the other hand, I wouldn't even think twice about buying most of the pre-Roadrunner albums again in this format. So where are those? :yeahright

BlobVanDam

This is great, although I'd really love everything from SDOIT onwards with a better master too (although SDOIT doesn't really need it, I'd just like it because that album has such a perfect mix).

I'd probably only want SC and DT12 though. ADTOE has such a poor mix that a good master isn't going to make a difference, and I have the stems for BCASL if I want more dynamic range.

Polarbear

Damn! SC sounds even better than before. But i think i will stick with the cd, that's just too damn much money for the HD.

Zydar

I'm downloading SC now, I'm interested in how it sounds. Those clips on the website didn't really reveal anything to me quality wise.

Kotowboy

Is A Dramatic Turn Of Events up for previewing ? Direct Linky ?

Kotowboy

 ;D Mercy Boo Coo !

I dunno why I can never find anything on that site...

I search Dream Theater and all I get is a pic of the band,

Zydar

I just go to the main site (www.hdtracks.com) and there I see the new album on the front page. I click on the band name and I come to their page where the albums are.

" Album's not available " .
That's because you're in the UK. Anyone outside the US (who isn't using a proxy of some kind) doesn't get to see the albums as we're not supposed to buy them, but we can go to the album page if someone posts a direct link.
