Enigma Machine is ok, but for me it's easily one of their weakest instrumentals (I'd say probably the weakest). It's not even the best instrumental on the album.
I enjoy it enough when listening to the album, but it's fairly simple riffing and soloing, and not too inspired to me. It doesn't have the buildup, the payoff, the melody, the beauty, the creativity etc that I enjoy from their other instrumentals.

This is a very addicting album.  I thought ADTOE was a great return to form for the band, but this one is on a different level; for me personally at least.  Just a beautiful piece of art and I just keep going back to this one over and over again.

This is officially the number 2 DT album for me behind Images & Words.  Looking forward to their next live release which will hopefully include many of the s/t tracks.

JiM-Xtreme

Today, for the first time, I am listening to tracks from the album out of sequence  :omg:

First one I listened to out of sequence was TBP. I didn't even really like that song all that much the first time round, I guess it's grown on me.

Exactly this.

I must say I don't like this album nearly as much as any other DT release and I haven't listened to it enough to be quite sure of my ranking.

JiM-Xtreme

Guess I'll follow suit.

Surrender To Reason

False Awakening Suite
Enigma Machine
Behind the Veil
The Looking Glass

I'm no good at doing rankings, but I will say The Bigger Picture is definitely my favorite song. Such an incredibly strong song

Implode

I just noticed that there isn't one song on the album that I love listening to all the way through. Many of the songs have great parts, but I guess their low parts are just too low to justify me listening to the album a lot.

I still love 90% of IT though. I find it to be a solid epic.

And to answer your question.  it must have!

After listening to DT12 many, many times, I can say the "problem" (for me) with this record, is I don't feel the NEED to sing the songs. It doesn't move me at all. I can't say anything negative about it musically, it's obviously a great job, but it's kind of cold. This short song format, doesn't work for me. Maybe Mangini was "unleashed", but the others don't. IMHO.

False Awakening Suite  (confusing)

Why is it confusing? It's a cinematic little piece used as an album opener, and to open concerts of the current tour. Pretty straightforward really..

There's so much stuff in it :p  It is like SDOIT Overture compressed to 3 mins.
maybe if those "Melodies" would have some space to breathe,  (meaning that they wouldn't change so fast) I'd like it.

TheGreatPretender

False Awakening Suite not only packs a whole bunch of music into tiny 3 minutes, it also packs a whole lot of awesomeness. Definitely one of the best album openers.

I think it works perfectly for an album opener, especially for a self titled album. :tup It's actually one of my favourite tracks from the album, top 2 or 3 for me.

Yeah, U could say that.  But I'd also say that it would ONLY work as an album opener :P  Think about in the middle of the album.. haha  ;D
I don't mean that I hate it.  I just find it "weird" ...

I don't like really much what comes after FAS.  TEI isn't my favourite DT Single :P

Well, maybe it would sound a little weird in the middle of a playlist, but it's still good to listen to all by itself. It is a stand alone piece that doesn't necessarily feel like it's leading into anything.
Regression, on the other hand, would sound weird in the middle of a playlist, AND it's too brief to stand strongly all on its own.

cyberdrummer

It pains me to say it, but I made an edit of Illumination Theory - in which I cut out pretty much the entire ambient and string section - and it has made it a much better song for me. It now flows a lot better and is a very solid track of 17:50 mins.

PixelDream

I was totally crazy about the album when it came out.

Now it's a lot different. I'm not playing the album at all anymore. All I listen to when it comes to DT, is Awake.

Probably a defect on my part. The album's pretty good. It's just that I don't have the desire to hear it anymore. I'll just let it rest.

I have to say this marks the first time that a new DT record isn't in my top 10 albums of the year. Maybe it's my personal tastes moving towards somewhere else.
