To those who've heard it, does anything form the new album make the cut?

Take a look at noxon's post (first on page 15 of My thoughts on 'Dream Theater' topic). I'm putting no link here cause the post contains SPOILERS.

Orthogonal

Since it hasn't been said yet (i think)

Outro to Innocence Faded, easily one of my top moments.

wolven74

I really love the movie quotes section of SDV and the ending "I'll never be open again" :metal

liran95

-Scarred solo
-FF (ALL OF IT)
-BTL outro
-BITS "And at last..."
-TCOT "Now wait a minute maaaaaan"
-TBOT solo
-BAI pre-last chorus (the modulation towards the chorus)
-BTS (ALL OF IT)
-Voices outro (It's only in your mind)
-ITNOG outro
-SOC keyboard solo (harpsi) and outro
-VACANTTTTTTTTTT

Um... More?

Addition to my list:

The outro to Repentance, after the spoken part. Those chord changes with the "ahhhhhhhhh's" is so amazing. The song also seems to be quite under-rated...I never really hear discussion of it. Does anyone else enjoy it?

YESSS!  :heart

Repentance is my favourite song of the 12SS, easily. I love everything about it. DAT SOLO = :hefdaddy

The solo, the chorus and the outro are great IMO, the rest feels like it's long for the sake of being long.

One of the biggest ironies for me with DT is the level of epicness kind of waters down the whole epicness.

What I mean is 'cos they do soooooo much epicness it's hard to compare. I kind of expect strong melodies, anthemic outros, so energy instrumentals; but with so many to choose from it's like an epicness overload.

I like chocolate. If all I did was eat chocolate there would be no fun in chocolate.

All that said, whenever anybody asks a question like this I always instantly jsut think of one thing. It's the first DT song I ever heard way back in '93 and I didn't understand what I was hearing. It was like being introduced to something I'd always wanted to hear but didn't know it. The isntrumental section from Metropolis. I NEVER get tired of hearing it. Frankly, if I saw them live and they offered to just play Metropolis over and over again for a couple of hours I'd be ok with that. Simply because every time I see them play it (about 5 times) I can enver grab hold of it and take it in in the way I want to.

I wish I could wear it.

Hell yeah! I may be speaking without thinking into this too much, but it may be my fav. of JP's slower-tempo solos. If not, definitely top 5. Oh, and while I'm at it, that solo is yet another one of my fav DT epic moments.

I definitely know what you mean. It's almost like they set the bar so high, they are only competing against themselves. But in my opinion, one of the things that separate them from other bands is their ability to continually create new, fresh, epic moments with every album release. Even my least favorite DT albums are full of these moments.

As for the chocolate comparison, I totally agree. I seem go through DT phases, where I will listen to them almost exclusively for a good 3-6 months or so, then I will take a break and shift gears into a PT phase, or Transatlantic or someone else for a few months. I can eat chocolate every day for a few months, but then I'll want ice cream for a bit.

As a DT fan though, NOTHING can compare to these times...a month or so away from a new album! It's the longest, but always most worthwhile wait for me. And this time, for whatever reason, I am more excited than ever. Before ADToE, I remember being excited, but very doubtful. I honestly must say that I didn't think they'd be the same without MP. Boy, was I wrong!

There are many, and most have been listed here..

just to bring another song to the table

Only a matter of time ending (from around 5:00 mark till the end)

Actually, when dream and day united album has many epic sections.

What is that one section that never fails to send chills down your spine? The most epic Dream Theater section?

For me, it's definitely Another World from A Change Of Seasons. There is just so much emotion there.
Another World, definitely.

Haha, maybe! Perhaps it's CD's voice that does it in for me...

I always enjoy when they cover WDADU songs live... I just don't see any of them on an "epic" level when compared to the rest of the discography.

Podaar

This moment never fails me:

"So I'm moving on, I'll never forget
As you lay there and watched me
Accepting the end, I knew you were scared
You were strong, I was trying

I gave you my hand, I said it's okay
Letting go, time to leave here
And I'll carry on the best that I can without you here beside me
Let him come take you home"

Sound quality is really poor that is true haha, but, the songs and music are actually interesting.

Just to be clear, I did not say some songs are epic. I said some sections are. (like the one i mentioned, Listen to that section and tell me if it's not epic)

And by epic I don't mean long, I mean Cinematic, with fanfare, spiritual lifter, etc.

Another one: Anna Lee's last chorus, after the solo.
