i love that none are long just for the sake of it

DarkLord_Lalinc

This reminds me a lot of Octavarium's track lengths. Lots of "shorter" songs and one epic. Nice stuff.

Orthogonal

Perspective is everything. There are 6 tracks greater than 6 minutes in length, so they aren't terribly short in real terms, but perhaps slightly under the DT average track length. Excluding the intro, which is its own beast, there are only 2 tracks coming just shy of 5 minutes which is still quite long compared to traditional music out there. Not too concerned with the length of this album, if it means they trimmed some "fat" to make the song-writing as tight as possible, I'm all for it.

Good stuff here. The thing that struck me the most is the word 'dark' to describe the album. I've been wanting more of a dark sounding album from them. When I look at the album cover it's dark, so if the music reflects the cover, bring it on!

cyberdrummer, I've got a question:

How high would you rank TBP among other DT ballads?

What song has the heaviest guitar riff on the album? Are there better riffs than on TEI? I found the riffs in that song a little unsatisfying.

Impossible to say.

Cyber, can you describe JM's bass solo?

Good.

Not sure about the first question, but there are definitely better riffs than anything in TEI.

Whenever people refer to tbp as a ballad I have to think... It's the heaviest ballad I've ever heard ;) the easiest comparioson is probably the ministry of list souls without the instrumental parts...

A ballad then :D

Do you think that TEI, as a single, is representative of the heaviness and darkness of the album?

mikemangioy

Could you describe Along for the ride better?

That reminds me of every Machine Head song that has *something* grolwed when the band kicks in.

It was a staple of the nu-metal era.

*intro riff*

*drum filll and whole band kicks in*

Surprised that FAS is as short as it is. As a multi-movement piece, I expected it to be 12-13 minutes. At this length, each movement will be well under a minute.

Considering that's the one song they're releasing stems for.

I'm sorry if I missed the thread where this was mentioned but, how did this come about?

This discussion starts with 'so I got back' and I was thinking, from where? What happened?=)

Apologies if I missed that part, I looked. And MANY thanks for posting and putting up with all our questions! So appreciated, the excitement is already so great.

Ben_Jamin

I knew it....6DOIT. Most experimental since that album.

Cyberdrummer and a couple of others went to a listening party in London for the new DT album. JP, JLB and JR was there too.

Kotowboy

Jordan, John and James were said to have "enjoyed" the album, but were surprised by how short the songs were.

Thanks so much for that, I'd heard of a listening party (near me) in NYC but wasn't sure about this one.

It's because it's a pretty straight rocker, kinda like black album era Metallica in the riff department with some anthemy vocals. It's a song that could just as well have existed on sc.
