So, again, stop saying bullshit about my opinion.... Don't change my words... Read first, then write a comment....

I know this is horribly off-topic, buy seriously, are you kidding me? There's no need to be that harsh. And I didn't change your words. At least not their meaning. Get over it
This.  What you are claiming you didn't say is pretty much exactly what you said.  A and B the two quotes.

Now let's please get back on topic.

Seriously

Back on topic. Noxon, Cyberdrummer, or whoever else heard the album: Is The Enigma Machine more of a technical showcase ala Erotomania or The Dance Of Eternity or is it a bit more song based like Stream Of Consciousness or Overture 1928? Sorry if this has already been asked, I've tried to follow this thread from the start, but I may have missed some.

Let's say, to be fair, we simply don't understand each other... But please do not think you got it right and I'm contradicting myself .. What good would that do me? These are the kind of things that happens when you're "web talking".. Anyway...

Noxon: Would you say DT will be an album relatively easy to get into? Based on your own perspective.. I hope you can answer to that....

Thanks for all the answers in any case... :tup

Why exactly does the Looking Glass harken back to the Images & Words days?

Song structure, sense of melody.

More like the former. It's very technical.

For the guys who've listened to the album, do think the sequence of the songs is good? Is there a point where the album becomes tiring because of continued heavy songs? Thanks!

Kotowboy

JP mentioned it has the kind of sequencing / variety of Octavarium. I imagine it will be more like a "mixed grill" of DT styles.

Now, that's a good question...

I also had this doubt at some point.. I'm sure that the first 4 tracks are quite balanced each other [you have Intro, Heavy song, melodic song (should we say "ballad"?), and the Instrumental] but, what about the rest?...

Noxon, you said DT12 is (above?) average. Are you able to say which album it's the best since?

noxon

I don't even want to begin to speculate as to what it would be "better than", as that's entirely subjective. I mean, I'm one that prefer ToT over SDOIT for instance and I don't think I'm among the majority there.

For sure all this is subjective.. But If you make a ranking list of all the albums (including DT) we'll know how to gauge your sequence of "better thanS".. If you don't mind to do that..

noxon

Okay, as of right now: SFAM-IAW-AWAKE-FII-DT12-ADTOE-TOT-SDOIT-8V-BCSL-SC-WDADU

There really is no point to that because no one else will rank the same albums identically to him. All that list will do is give you a pre-conceived notion of how the album sounded based on someone else's opinion.

Just wait for the album to come out and rank it yourself.

DT12 would be my 5th favorite album then, since your rankings are pretty similar.

Edit: Because, you liked DT12 more than ADTOE and TOT and SDOIT is top 4 for me instead of FII.

I will.. But this ranking gives me something at least, since it has a trend to the general opinion... It's good to know that to someone who places SFAM and I&W (as most consider), DT is in the fifth place.. That's very encouraging..

Daso

Noxon, I assume you have been listening to the album rather frequently. At this point (and I'm aware that it's a completely subjective matter), do you feel there is a song that you like more every time you listen to it or one that has lost been losing its charm?

Ben_Jamin

Based off their reviews I'm going to really enjoy this a lot. I'm not picky when it comes to the artwork, just as long as it fits the mood of the music.

ToT-147

Very simple question to N / C / M: It is different to ADTOE?..

I mean, judging by its style, sound, feeling...

I am pretty sure they said that it is a completely different album not only to ADToE but to all the others.

Correct. It really sounds like no other DT album.

That's simply great.

noxon

Though it does sound like all of the previous DT albums had a huge orgy and the result was a child with the name of "Dream Theater".

It still is unmistakenly Dream Theater, and to be honest the same statement (it's completely different from all the other albums) could be said about almost any album in DT's catalogue, so i'm not sure how much worth that is.

nikatapi

Another question which has been partially answered (drum and bass cool stuff on IT) but how much would you say that JM is contributing to the songs? Is he doing cool stuff in many songs or is he mostly doubling JP?

noxon

I'm not sure it has been mentioned, but there's several of places where there's basically just drums and bass covering the groove while the guitar (or keyboard) does soloing (and keys/guitar maybe as a background effect to fill out the sound). JM is on fire on this album. Especially on Surrender to Reason.

eosforum

Does it sound like they tried to combine the sound of all their previous records (to some reasonable extent) on purpose?

GalacticGuitarist87

My first impression based on nothing, was that the Myung written song is Surrender to Reason. That last statement is making me wonder.

Sounds awesome. More bass is always good. The excitement is building!
