Instead of talking about cheesy or misheard lyrics, let's talk about you're favorite DT lyrics for a change!

One of my favs is  "You'll never rule me now, though you may stand upon my grave". I get the chills hearing that part often.

wolven74

Not my all time favorite, but definitely one of JPs best.

As a child, I thought I could
   live without pain without
   sorrow

As a man I've found it's all
   caught up with me
I'm asleep yet I'm so afraid

Somewhere like a scene from a
   memory
There's a picture worth a
   thousand words
Eluding stares from faces
   before me
it hides away and will never be
   heard of again.

Deceit is the second without end.

I am favorite DT lyrics? Well thank you!

Anyhow, I'll choose a song for each member:

JP: Voices
JM: Trial of Tears
JLB: Vacant
MP: A Change of Seasons
KM: 6:00
CD: I suppose I'll go with Afterlife

PROGdrummer

Can you show me your gold and your silver?
A hero in frozen water

I like that one

RMGadelha

I'm not a DT lyric,  but nice to meet you ;)

While for the most part, especially on more recent releases, I find myself disinterested with Dream Theater's lyrics, a couple standout works.

Learning to Live
Trial of Tears
ACOS
Space Dye Vest
Misunderstood

reneranucci

Can you correct the mistake on the thread title?

Laich21DT

But then we wouldn't be able to make jokes about it anymore...

FourthHorseman

The wasteland section in Trial of Tears.

Sketchy

Tom Bombadil

Scarred and Trial of Tears stand out. Glass Moon is pretty good too.

Onno

Trial of Tears (wasteland section), Learning To Live, Space-Dye Vest, A Change of Seasons, Losing Time/Grand Finale, Bridges in the Sky, Breaking All Illusions, Beneath The Surface and maybe my favourite: Octavarium.

Lucidity

Space-Dye Vest, A Change of Seasons, and Voices. Most DT lyrics are... bad... But I like these.

Jaffa

'If I seem superhuman I have been misunderstood' is one of my favorite lines from any song ever.

JPX

"All your eyes have ever seen
All you've ever heard
Is etched upon my memory
Is spoken through my words

All that I take with me
Is all you've left behind
We're sharing one eternity
Living in two minds
Linked by an endless thread
Impossible to break"

I always thought that these were particularly beautiful, and the way James sings them just reinforces that.

thosava

From Surrounded, one of my all time favourite songs!

Once lost but I was found
When I heard the stained glass shatter all around me

I sent the spirits tumbling down the hill
But I will hold this one on high above me still

She whispers words to clear my mind
I once could see but now at last I'm blind

krieger

#16
"Last night I had dreams that I was you
I was tearing out the pages of my diary
When a bird flew past my head
So I put them back again... because I knew
IT'S ALRIGHT TO LIKE THE WAY I FEEL."
Sun Orange Small - demo

It's very beautiful, very emotional.

??? What? Demos are not allowed? Okay, then:

"It's like the time I lost my body
And then I saw it on T.V.
Somehow it shed a whole dimension
But it still looked like me."

Wow. So amazing!   :tup

Wh... wh... What? No parallel project songs from dissidents?  :omg: So, no doubt about:

"Falling through pages of Martens on angels
Feeling my heart pull west..."

Well, you know the rest...

This would be one of mine too. My other two favorites are Scarred and Space Dye Vest. Disappear is a great one too.

Lark the Starless

Out of the top of my head, the lyrics to "Voices."

Metabog

*sigh* The title... the title... can't deal with it.

Anyway my favorite lyrics are probably something from Awake. Maybe Voices.

mike099

From Lines in the Sand:

Living comes much easier, when we admit, we're dying.

Vacant!

Oh, and also Another World section from ACOS, especially this:

"Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what
Don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Then string him up for all the world to see"

and also this:

"Seasons change and so can I
Hold on Boy
No time to cry
Untie these strings
I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away"

Everytime I hear the bolded line followed by this beautiful solo... I can't help the goose bumps.

Ruba

Wait for Sleep
Learning to Live
Voices
The Mirror
Space-Dye Vest
A Change of Seasons
Hollow Years
Lines in the Sand
Misunderstood
Disappear
The Root of All Evil
In the Presence of Enemies (sue me)
Outcry

Now when I think it, quite many of them really are, I wouldn't say bad, but weak.

Nearmyth

Another World section from ACOS is one of my favorite DT lyrics ever, especially "Oh come, let us adore him, abuse, and then ignore him."

I actually like the lyrics to Blind Faith, "Sorry you must excuse me. I've painted my own Mona Lisa. She's fixed everything, now I'm spoiled beyond my wildest dreams."

I like the lyrics to the first movement of Octavarium, but actually not as much the lyrics as the delivery of the lyrics. It's perfect. This also goes for Voices, where the delivery shines.

From ADTOE there's Breaking All Illusions, "Emrace the days, don't turn away. Life's true intent needs patience. Karma starts the signal."

Then Bridges In The Sky, the whole chorus is great.

Learning to live, Metropolis, 6:00, Space-Dye Vest, The Glass Prison are all good as well.

SubV

Pull Me Under
The Mirror / Lie
Misunderstood
Octavarium
Breaking All Illusions

54_diplomats

"Oh come let us adore him..."

"I sit down with my son. Set to see the crimson sunset."

"And how come you don't understand me? And how come I don't understand you? Thirty years say we're in this together, so open your eyes."

"There must be the third and last dance, this one will last forever. Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles."

"Living comes much easier. Once we admit, we're dying."

nattmorker

All of "Only a matter of time" and "Dissapear". I'm really liking the lyrics of "The enemy inside".

Joshin U

"I could never get OVA....

But never's better than now."

dragonmaster715

i love the lyrics in the carpe diem part of acos. i love the message they give. another world has good lyrics to.

oh, and the part of the count of tuscany:

"Could this be the end?
Is this the way I die
Sitting here alone
No one by my side..."

TheGreatPretender

This one's really grown on me over the past year or so:

I don't need one thousand reasons,
when someone starts to cry,
When someone says, "My heart needs lifting,"
Don't ask how come, ask how high

dragonmaster715

oh, you just reminded me, i also love the lyrics to disapear, so sad lol
