This is going to be tough.  Dime has a little better than a 2-to-1 lead right now.

Well, out of all those that are still in the contest, Dime is, in my opinion, the one that would deserve a win over Petrucci the most. In fact, I'm not sure who I'd be voting for if I participated in this.

Meatrose

Well, the poll has not been up for long and Dime's lead has already been diminished (about 6%) so keep in mind that it's not over until the fat lady sings. If we could make Images and Words beat Master of Puppets in the final round of Loudwire's March Metal Madness even though Metallica kept posting about the poll on their facebook with +30 million fans this shouldn't be impossible at all. Let's show 'em our burning passion.  ;)

By the way, back in 1990's, and early 2000's, I wasn't into Metal that much. Have people always had such a reverence for Dimebag? Because I know there's that whole phenomenon, when an artist dies, suddenly they are "The best" and so on. But I never thought Dimebag was that amazing. At least not to the point of worship that he gets now. Was it like that before he died?

Yes, Dimebag is a fucking amazing guitarist.
EDIT: Also lol, the only reason Adam Jones won was because Tool kept linking the contest. Even though they play very different styles, Randy Rhoads should have been the clear victor. I hate polls. It always ends up being "Who's fan base can be rounded up to larger numbers?" It's quite hard for Randy Rhoads considering he's passed away and can't post "PLS VOTE 4 ME PLS"
Put these polls under the "Things That Piss Me Off" Topic.

Yeah, pretty much. It's not a case of Cliff Burton syndrome here. He was a big deal, especially during the Pantera years.

Thanks for bumping the link. I'm lazy and probably wouldn't have voted. :lol Voted for JP, although I won't be disappointed if Dimebag wins the round. Whoever wins that match-up definitely deserves to win the whole thing.

Anyone else fucking annoyed by the way this website is kinda disrespecting JP by basically saying that he'd have no chance at winning these matches if it weren't for DT fans swarming the poll?

QuoteDream Theater's John Petrucci is unquestionably one of the world's finest players. However, godlike chops don't always work against a behemoth like Metallica's Kirk Hammett. Dream Theater fans, however, showed up in droves and earned Petrucci another win.
What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Are they serious??

I'm sorry for JP, but I went for Dimebag. I feel a bit guilty though :(

Guys we gotta vote!

Yeah, I'm trying to vote every hour, both on my phone and on my PC. My goal is to vote at least 30 times each day but I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep it up this time. I'm going to go see Manchester United play today so I'll be gone for a while but at least I'll be able to vote from the arena using my phone.

Yeah what the fuck

And I don't see how Dime could even come close to JP in any aspect. Easy choice.

Syzzle

I'm sure when Dimebag wins they won't mention that Pantera has been constantly posting about it on their facebook while DT hasn't posted about this at all.

I agree with you. I went emo on that choice
Pantera was my very first introduction to metal.  :metal

And yes, the fact they mentioned DT in there is absolutely ridicolous.

If I recall correctly, JP is DT's guitarist.

Posting about it once per round does not equate to constantly posting about it. I didn't see anyone here complaining in other polls where it's the reverse situation with DTF spamming the results.
It's just an internet poll, and it allows you to vote every hour. It's all fair game.

That's a surprise. I'd expect to see plenty of people complaining.

Nope, they only do that when DT wins. They belittle the accomplishment by referring to DT's weird and insanely passionate fans.

Taking down Master of Puppets in the battle of the greatest metal albums of all times is definitely a bigger accomplishment than this would be but I think that the fact DT is in the middle of quite possibly their biggest album promotion cycle of their carriers is the reason why they're not even paying attention to this poll on facebook or twitter. They did post several times when Images and Words was competing in the March Metal Madness competition, which rallied the non-DTF but still passionate supporters, but I'm afraid we won't be able to turn this around given the circumstances. We can't win this by ourselves, we need the rest of the DT fans to turn this around.

Is there some way we could contact the ones in charge of the social media outlets to let them know that John needs our support?  :P

I edited my post, because I'm referring to people on DTF. I know other people on the internet do! DTF represents.

Well, what about that RoadRunner guy?

Meatrose

Yeah, when we were able to dethrone Master of Puppets both bands actually posted several times on facebook and twitter, asking their fans to vote, and we were still able to win. The thing is, I don't think this is possible without the support of all the non-DTF supporters in the world and given what's going on in the world of Dream Theater right now I think this is the perfect opportunity to take us down. DT would need to post about this poll on twitter and facebook.

Edit:

Randy? I guess but I would think that the vast majority of the DT fans out there are subscribed to Dream Theater's twitter and/or facebook, not RoadRunner's.

Looks like JP doesn't stand a chance against Diamond. Well, it was a fun ride while it lasted....

Tomislav95

I think Dimebag is one of the most overrated metal guitarists. I mean, he's not bad at all but his playing is repetitive and he's not close to Petrucci (or Satriani, Vai, Skolnick...).

me7

Maybe we should just kill John Petrucci. It'll be for his own good, so that he can win polls like that in the future.

I don't think that's the problem. We humiliated Master of the freaking Puppets in the "best metal album ever" polls... with Images And Words. The problem is that the entire DT machine is busy focusing on the new album and the single. Here at DTF we're just a collection of extra hardcore fans, the vast majority of hardcore DT fans are probably unaware of this poll as DT has not posted this on facebook or twitter.

Given that this entire thread has been GUYS VOTE FOR PETRUCCI YOU CAN VOTE EVERY HOUR-yeah. It's ridiculous not to think that ballot box stuffing is going on. These "you can vote more than once" polls are ludicrous anyway, because they always go to the artist who has the fans willing to spam the vote button.

Progmetty

I don't like this thing cause it seems like the guy running it has an opinion and a bit biased to some people.

Quote
Although there is only one Eddie Van Halen, Dream Theater fans swarmed our Round 2 poll and afforded Petrucci a comfortable win over Van Halen. Will Petrucci survive the Quarterfinals? Your votes will decide.

Yes douche, I wish your fellow senior citizens who would have "swarmed" the polls and voted Eddie Van Halen could have been there for you.

Shadow Ninja 2.0

I don't think he was expecting JP to do as well as he did. :lol

I'm really not seeing what's wrong with his comment at all, nor do I see what's wrong with the Kirk Hammett comment posted a little further up. Just overreacting to innocuous comments imo.

This should have been the final, not the semi. Dimebag will win the whole thing, deservingly.

Sycsa

I'm always slightly baffled when some people proudly announce that they voted for someone else. Here, have a cookie for proving to have character. The only fun part of these polls would be to show the power and enthusiasm of DT fans and thus maybe getting another "thank you" video. Otherwise, the whole thing is completely pointless and an utter waste of time. If you're voting by preference, you're taking it way too seriously.
