Do you think the band is aware of the "bad planet cut" in their album cover?

What's wrong with that bit on the left? It's just part of what's being reflected in the logo.

I can't see it, even when I wear my glasses.

Moreover I doubt Dream Theater went "hey guys, let's run this through some editing software to find the mistakes!"

There's nothing wrong with the damn cover. You guys nitpicking it to death? Yeah, that's silly. I suspect 90% of the people saying "I SEE IT TOO!" are just rorschach blotting it, and really don't see it at all. Lighten up.

DT paid Hugh Syme to do his job, and they want it to be done well (I suppose). It doesn't really matter if you can see it or not, it's there and it's the work of someone who was paid.

Is it your place to tell DT what to do with it their money?

At first I thought the cut was an hommage to Dark Side of The Moon but the ray of light would be inverted

No, not really. Just pointing out that they paid for a job that can be done by anyone with some experience on Photoshop.

It's like Andy Wallace with the ADTOE mix. It's fine, but the mix was lacking several things that made us complain. Andy probably pocketed lots of money back then mixing the record, but a much better job could have been done for the money. Yeah, we learned to live the mix as we'll learn to live with this faulty album cover, but a better job could have been done? Probably.

Maybe they cut his pay, so in return he cut their planet  ;D

Meh, that's plausible  :lol

My two cents:  As some have pointed out, even if what was released is a high res final version, it's not even visible on most monitors and will most likely not be visible on a printed CD cover.  It's a complete non-issue and isn't worth complaining about in the slightest.

On the other hand, if the band becomes aware of the public outcry and the mass wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth over what many describe as a travesty or equal proportion to the holocaust, I suppose they might do well to take that into account given that it is probably a fairly easy fix.

Debatable.

Only because he has a 3k postcount.  :lol

But seriously, not seeing it and claiming that others can't see it either, but decided to lie to go with the flow...  ::)

manticore999

Still don't see it and really don't care.  I'll get from Itunes or Amazon, as I always do, and won't ever look at the cover.  I couldn't tell you what the covers of about 80% the albums look like.  They could use a plain brown wrapper and save a few bucks on artwork for all I care.  I'm more interested in the music.

OsMosis2259

I didn't see the cut on my monitor at work but when I came home it's pretty visible on my laptop.

The screen is a little brighter on my laptop so that's probably why.

I have a dell inspiron 1545 at home.

It doesn't really bother me though... Just an observation.

OsMosis2259

Yeah I'm sure it will be fine on the CD. Only on bright monitors, this line is showing...

Mebert78

What a shame about the messed up artwork.  I'm sure it won't be visible on the actual physical copy, but regardless it's visible online -- and that's where a ton of people see the artwork these days.  I suggest the band move to fix this asap before this flawed artwork is circulated more and more by various websites and new agencies as the release date approaches.

Why? Is it so outrageous to think that someone might not see it?

I'm assuming it's the suggestion that 90% of the people don't actually see it.

??? No, it's the suggestion that 90% of the people who claim that they see it just imagine that they see it. There might be people who cannot see it for various reasons, but it's painfully obvious both on a well-calibrated LCD and a smartphone.

I think it would have been fun if they had put the five guys on the horizon of that planet. Small in the image, but they would be huge since it's a whole planet on the picture.
Dunno, DT have never appeared on any of their album covers. Would have been fun to break with that habit.

CrimsonSunrise

Let's just hope that the band doesn't get blown away by public..... outcry.......:neverusethis: over this issue , and try to fix it, thus delaying the release of the album.... :omg:  That would be some serious suck....
