Haha, I think the argument can be made for 8V. But let's not go into that again :lol

Instead of arguing it, I'll just agree to disagree and add this-
If you consider Octavarium a concept album, then I don't think it's anywhere near as far fetched that the new album would meet the same criteria. But I don't see it being a concept album in the same sense as SFAM.

cyberdrummer

I also think that's more likely. Finally we reach agreement!

Though I'd prefer a full-on concept like SFAM.

:hifive:

Hooray! Now back to our regular scheduled programming of debating whether the album will be 70 minutes in length, or only 69:45 in length.

Jaq

Oh god, first the prog vs progressive argument, now the concept album argument-I'll see this part of the forums when a single arrives.  :lol

cyberdrummer

But will there be a single? /anotherrecycleddebate

Back on topic, I can't be the only one hoping to hear more classic synthesizer sounds from JR on this album?

nestcmartin

As far as I know, promo copies will be around in mid-august, so I think we can expect a single in the first days of the next month, just in time for the pre-orders.

Also, seems like Tio Emilio keeps talking about the album:

QuoteNo, there's no big changes at all.

It reminds me, like ADTOE, to the old Dream Theater from Scenes form A Memory and previous albums. It has more accessible choruses, and more "songs", but there is some mad things too. Even the instrumental is a "song"...

Ugh... I'm disappointed. I wasn't expecting the instrumental to be a song at all  :tdwn

Kotowboy

So, it reminds him not only of A Dramatic Turn of Events - but crucially, every preceding Dream Theater album as well

Well i think that's all we need to know.

devieira73

The spanish review talks about a "eletronic drum sound" on DT12... maybe it sounds like the drums sound on James Labrie's EoP (same engineer and mixer, remember?). It sounds a bit triggered there, but I think it's cool and miles better than the one o ADToE. And less keyboard solos doesn't mean less keyboard on the cd... Awake has few keyboard solos and I think the keys arrangements are also very cool.

You guys  :lol

I'll try to explain the meaning he's intending with "song". Put it this way: it would be more like Ytse Jam, but not like TDOE, for example. That meaning it'd have something similar to a classic song structure.

And for the rest of the tracklist, I suppose he's referring to the same thing: classic structure, short and concise songs. Nothing new, really, but that's it.

I don't know how to explain it better, sorry  :-\

?

Yeah, I got what he was trying to say and the description sounds promising, because I don't want another TDOE :)

wait... have we established the credibility of this guy or are we just taking his word for it because we're so desperate for DT news?  :lol

I still don't really believe him that much, but yeah, we're all really pent up for news.

And am I the only one here who likes TDOE?

Nope, I like it too. When I listen to SFAM, I listen to all of it, I don't skip TDOE or anything else. No need to. :hat

TDOE was in the top 5 of my rankings thread - https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=35446.0

Still my favorite instrumental track the band has done.

Well, for what it's worth, a "song" technically requires lyrics.  We on DTF (and I think the rock community in general) misuses that word.

But... we were doing instrumentals.

Octavarium can be whatever the hell it wants to be  ;D

On a side note, I think I get what Jose Cuervo up there said in his review, and I could stand the instrumental having a "song"-like structure.  SOC kinda has that structure, and that's my favorite instrumental. We shall see. Oh yes, we shall see.

matte.braso

is it possible to have a link of the spanish forum? just to satisfy my curiosity...

Hey, guys.  Don't log off.  Cool stuff is coming in about 15 minutes.

Well, I could answer that.  But since I still have 12 minutes to go, I'd have to kill myself.
