For me it is 'Prophets of war',hands down. It's the most uninspired and indifferent song, with absolutely no reason to have been composed and recorded, even for non DT standards.I would delete it,if it was within my responsibility. And Systematic Chaos is an album that should not have been released in the first place, btw.I love DT,but this is the truth.Well, feel free to express yourselves.

Prophets of War isn't that great, but it is still better than Constant Motion, You Not Me and Never Enough.

?

What is it with so many (relatively) new members stating their opinions as facts?

Also, why does your opinion on one song warrant an entire thread? I mean, we have top 50 threads but we also have a system to make sure there aren't too many of those at once, plus doing one of those takes a greater degree of dedication to a task than saying "hi I hate POW."

It also may not have been a good idea to make your first thread a hate thread dedicated to one song.

This is the truth, for me.C'mon guys, don't start to overanalyze everything. It's so obvious i wrote my opinion.Since it's writen by someone, anyone,it can'be objective, generally speaking. Now,tell us your opinions on the topic.Thank you.

Prophets of war is a pretty decent song in my opinion. YNM isn't really a DT song, with an external writer involved and all. Never Enough has a weak chorus, but I enjoy the rest.

That being said, there's absolutely no excuse for Constant Motion. The instrumental section is fine, but everything else about it gives me ear cancer.

I like Constant Motion. I also like Prophets of War. Even You Not Me isn't really that bad.

My opinion on the topic is that Prophets of War is my favorite song ever. It starts with that beautiful keyboard melody and James' vocals, which I would describe as delicate, in a beautiful way. And then when the main riff comes in right after "it's time to make a change"... chills. The Queen vocals are an excellent touch to that first verse, especially the "oooooAAAAAHH" right before "they continue the same rhetoric."

Then it kicks into that top notch chorus section with the crowd chants that make this song such a great anthem that must be amazing live.

Then the best part: We go into the bridge where James continues to excel and Mike's kickass rap. Right into the quiet chorus. Then more chorus and chanting and just like that, the best 6 minutes of my life are over.

I'm kidding, it isn't my favorite song, but I do enjoy it. And I think it's poor form to make a thread dedicated to your hatred of a song on the forum dedicated to the band who wrote the song. EDIT: Particularly if it is your first thread.

And guys Constant Motion is amazing, for real.

Guys, I don't think illusionist intended for this thread to be specifically about Prophets of War or his hatred of it.  It seems to me that he wanted to make a 'what is the worst DT song ever?' thread, and then stated his own opinion on the subject.

I agree with you. But anyway, a lot of people like it, so... maybe they reached a new audience. Of course they alienated some.

Anyway, worst DT song ever: Constant Motion.  :-[

If someone isn't interested in answering this thread, nobody forces him to do so.Also,if this thread is a problem,i am sure admins will delete it.And after all,who is responsible (apart from the admins) to judge if a new topic deserves to be created or not,and by what criteria?

Constant Motion is not bad at all. Certainly not DT's best moment, but by no means their worst. As for Prophets of War, I ranked it 19th on my ongoing Least fav. DT songs list (thread is here). For that same reason, I'm not going to disclose what my least favourite DT song is.

Just Let Me Breathe. Mainly because of the lyrics. Terrible attempt at "mainstream bashing".

MrBoom_shack-a-lack

I actually don't have a "worst DT song" only songs I don't listen to very often for various reasons.

Alright, looking at this again, I think this is a possible interpretation of this topic. It's a little unclear since the OP jumped right into his opinion without prefacing it with something stating the topic of the thread aside from the title, which is somewhat ambiguous.

There is no song that DT has officially released that I flat-out dislike and would therefore call their "worst song ever." But the song that does the least for me is probably Light Fuse and Get Away or maybe Status Seeker. I don't have WDADRU yet, and so James could improve my opinion of these (I don't hate Charlie but I vastly prefer James), but to me these are just not really up to the DT standard in song structure and creativity. I wouldn't wish them out of existence, but I would rarely put either one on unless I was listening to the whole debut (which does have some good songs like TKH, TOWHTSTS and OAMOT).

@Elite: I was careful to differentiate between countdown threads and threads aimed at individual songs. Plus, both you and bosk (who I think are the only ones to have done "Bottom ## songs" threads) have been respectful in them and haven't gone to bashing or saying that your opinions are "the truth." I've been following your thread and enjoying it.

PLUS, you're both established members and have made countless posts in the past praising the band, so you have more credibility to identify what are some of their less excellent moments in your opinion without it seeming like bashing.

What I think is going wrong here is that OP is asking for the 'worst song'.. Well, music can arguably be hugely different in quality, but it all comes down to taste. With music, and hell, all art, or anything that can't be 'measured' objectively for that matter, I prefer to use 'favourite' and 'least favourite'. This way, if you can back up why you think that, there's no way anyone could fault you, since they're basically your own opinions.

And yeah, my 'least favourite' Dream Theater song could be the next person's favourite DT song. It doesn't matter and frankly, I wouldn't care. We're all here because we like the band, so let's not really make threads to rank a 'worst' Dream Theater song, because as long as music can't be measured objectively, there is no such thing as that.

This.  And there is nothing constructive about this thread whatsoever.
