Sorry, I couldn't resist! But seriously, is there any trio of songs that makes it hard for you to get through some DT album?

IMO the worst three-song run is TDEN/Repentance/POW on Systematic Chaos. The whole album is extremely weak, but TDEN and POW are my least favorite songs and Repentance gets boring after the solo. I also think the trio of New Millennium, You Not Me and Peruvian Skies has to be mentioned, because while I like PS, the former two are a really weak start for FII.

Also, remember to remain respectful and avoid unnecessary bashing!

Zydar

I'll go with Repentance / Prophets Of War / The Ministy Of Lost Souls.

mellotron_scratch

Forsaken/Constant Motion/The Dark Eternal Night.

Scorpion

A Fortune in Lies/Status Seeker/Ytse Jam. Two of DT's worst tracks and a okay instrumental that doesn't measure up to later instrumentals in any shape or form.

krands85

Probably one of these groupings:

Light Fuse and Get Away, Afterlife, The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun - Afterlife is great though, but I never listen to the other 2 really
Take Away My Pain, Just Let Me Breathe, Anna Lee - TAMP and AL are OK when I'm in the mood, but I prefer the other side of DT. JLMB is one of their weakest tracks
The Answer Lies Within, These Walls, I Walk Beside You - A disappointing run of songs on an album I really like. I don't mind listening to any of them, but they're all fairly boring to me.
Whoaaaahh, ohhh, ohhhhh. Whoaaaahh, ohhhhh, ohhhhhh. Waaah, ahhh, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaowwwwww

Blind Faith, Misunderstood, The Great Debate: I really like TGD sometimes, but it's not too spectacular. The other two are amongs the worst material DT has ever done, especially Misunderstood. Two unlistenable songs and one that is not that great either make three out of six songs on SDOIT and make me unable to listen to the whole album from front to back.

Dellers

Any three song run on Systematic Chaos that doesn't include ITPOE.

BlobVanDam

Aw, why do we have to have such downer threads? Surely there are some positive thread ideas left!

:lol Is sad LaBrie catching on? Because I would support that.

Yes.

Destiny Of Chaos

TAMP/JLMB/ToT

My two least favorite DT songs..... so it was down to having them with LITS and ToT. I went with the latter, as LITS is in my top 50.

Scorpion

Uhmmm... there's Anna Lee between Trial of Tears and JLMB though.

(Plus that's a terrible choice, but whatever).

Lol... whoops... should fully wake up before I post.

But yeah, then it's TAMP/JLMB/AL , even though I like AL more than ToT.

Lucien

Take Away My Pain, Just Let Me Breathe, and Anna Lee.

If those three songs were taken and put somewhere else in the album, I'd probably have one of my favorite groupings, being Hell's Kitchen, Lines in the Sand, and Trial of Tears (IMO the three best songs on FII)

This, exactly.

Ministry gets good towards the end but yeah those three back to back are quite a chore.

I love The Answer Lies Within. These Walls is one of the best songs on Octavarium and I'll give you Walk Beside You - even though I still like it.

I love These Walls. Fairly straightforward, almost pop-ish, but with the signature DT style. Petrucci's solo and Mike's drumming are tasty, each pre-chorus drum fill is better than the last (often it's the small, subtle things that grab the listener). Great mood, the 6/8 really grooves all the way through.

KevShmev

I would have picked a threesome involving Forsaken and Constant Motion, two of my five least favorite songs from a DT studio album ever, but I like both ITPOE Part 1 and The Dark Eternal Night enough to where I didn't want to put either in my run.  I thought it would be better to go with a threesome that mostly bored me (hence, the one I chose).

I humbly disagree. I feel that, while Misunderstood doesn't stick with me as much, the other two are terrific songs that carry a specific mood and really elevate the first disc. On that note, one of the great things about DT and this forum is that we all enjoy different sides of what they do. It's easy to present a unique opinion and receive constructive feedback, simply because the music itself is so rich in variety and influence. Though, I suppose I'm preaching to the choir here

For my weak run, I'd go with Repentance/POW/TMOLS. I rather enjoy Prophets Of War, but I very rarely listen to the other two. They each have extended moments that I find a bit boring, or lacking impact. The good moments aren't enough to get me to listen to them regularly.

Ruba

A Rite of Passage/Wither/The Shattered Fortress. Two of their worst tracks back to back. TSF is OK though.

BlobVanDam

The only run of 3 songs in DT's entire discography that doesn't include any song I enjoy whatsoever is-

Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
Scarred
Space Dye Vest

WDADU even manages a song I enjoy in regular enough intervals to not have 3 duds back to back, which ain't bad considering it's by far my least favourite DT album! Well played, WDADU. Heck, aside from those two albums, I don't think there are any other instances of even two songs back to back that I'd say I strongly dislike. Certainly songs I skip consistently, or might find boring, but not hate.
Hence as rob put it in another thread, the "half hour of hatred" at the end of Awake. Thanks for that one, rob. :lol

Lolzeez

I Walk Beside You/Panic Attack/Never Enough

RoeDent

Here's a thought. Are we allowed to suggest a cross-album run? Say, the last 2 songs on one album and the first song on the next album?

You've just listed probably my favorite three-song run from DT catalog overall as your least favorite three-song run... wow... music is really, really subjective :lol Anyway Misunderstood and The Great Debate are two of DT biggest masterpieces for me and Blind Faith is also a great song.

I was only thinking about 3-song runs within specific albums, but you can list a cross-album run if you want.

Even though I think Lie is decent, I have to go with this order because the other two are so horrible.

Lie
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
Scarred

Possibly mine too! :lol Blind Faith is a top 5 DT song for me and I really love the other two as well.
