Some songs from A Dramatic Turn Of Events copy a song from Images & Words structurally. Will the same happen to Dream Theater the album and Awake? If you think so, guess which Awake songs will make it.

Guys... I have inside info. The guys really are re-doing Awake.

Here's what I can tell you ( I may get banned after this.... )

" Dream Theater will be similar to Awake in the following ways : The CD will start. Music will commence and songs will begin and end over the course of 60-75 minutes. The CD will stop. "

" Also - it will be their second CD to feature a new line up. "

" Both CDs will be roughly 12cm across. "

Sorry Hef and Bosk. I thought everyone needed to know since DT weren't releasing news that often.

Seriously though, I've never really understood the 'similarities' between Images and Words and A Dramatic Turn of Events, so I don't really believe in this one either.

Portnoy only *noticed* them when it was bought up here as an idea by some guy who had no proof - but that's another discussion.

I seriously doubt it, however I do expect a song which starts with a drum solo, so there you go, 6:00.

Honestly, I don't really think ADTOE is similar to Images and Words at all. Maybe cause I never thought about it, maybe cause I haven't listened to it enough. I dunno.

Either way, I don't think DT12 will be similar in any way to Awake, or any of their older stuff. Mainly because John Petrucci stated this:

"I see every new album as an opportunity to start over," said Petrucci. "To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground."

It sounds like they want to try something new. Although, if it was structurally similar to Awake that'd be awesome. But that's what I think.

Mindflux

You mean words strung together to form songs?

Or notes smashed together to form music?

If so, then yes.

Ruba

Geez I hope no. I don't think they can pull out anything even close to how good Awake is without KM.

Why not? They've already managed it several times.

Sixtease

I must still smile at those "I don't hear any similarities" posts. Over and over this has been explained and demonstrated. Read Thiago's post people. Read it, not just skim over.

Look, we both know we stand on the different sides on this issue, and no matter how hard we try, the result is always the same.  :lol I won't even try to proselytize you.  :lol

RoeDent

I think it will be structurally similar to Dream Theater.

Good Lord, why are you bringing this up again?

Once more, James LaBrie's wonderfully succinct dismissal of Thiago's theory on Twitter:

QuoteJames LaBrie @tinchoman80 Hey he's having fun, beyond that, I think absolutely nothing of it. Take care.

Obviously they're going to mimic SFAM. I mean, SFAM had 9 scenes, and DT12 is going to have 9 songs, including TWO instrumentals.

If there's anything mimicking Awake, I'll eat my words but that would be a very dull thing to do.

Then again, if you count "A Mind Beside Itself" as one piece, there WERE 9 songs on Awake...

Cute idea.  But since there is do indication whatsoever that there will be any similarity to Awake, this is just rampant speculation that could be done in the main album thread.  There's no reason for a separate thread.
