Random question - what is the girl on the IaW cover actually holding? Is it related to a lyric or just part of the photo for some random reason?

My best guess is the "cold metal frame" from Wait For Sleep.

Ninja'd by the Proggy Snob.

I really don't pay attention to lyrics, so I had no idea about any mention of a cold metal frame. :lol I'll have to actually listen out next time!

And the girl is clearly waiting for something...maybe sleep.

Marco - that is really really interesting! I'm really interested in atom-scale (or smaller) physics myself, but there aren't many courses in my study which feature that, unfortunately :( I'll keep you up to date once I start my thesis :) By the way, did you actually test with a detector whether your simulation was right? And does the 10^-45 chance to interact mean that the neutrino will hit the electron only once every 10^45 times that you fire it? Does its path become altered somehow?

With all the excitement of the new album, I fear that ADTOE will almost be dismissed by both band and fans as a "transition" album, not a full part of DT's catalogue. It is probably my personal top DT album (yes, even above I&W).  I don't care that Mangini didn't really write the drumming for it. If anything, it proves that Petrucci can write wonderfully for drums, even though he doesn't play them.

Not to take away from JP, but he wrote basic drums tracks just to give MM a feel for what the song should sound like, the tempo, etc.

There is interaction only once every 10^45 times. In all the other cases there is absolutely no change in the path or the energy of the neutrino nor in the state of the electron. Which is the reason why nobody dies, suffers from mutations or even realizes he's hit by 10^11 neutrinos every second on every square centimeter of our body for all our lives.

Also, WTF is wrong with the alumni stars? ???

Move Along. You don't have the alumni stars we're looking for. Carry on.

Sketchy

HOLY CRAP. You'd better warn Bosk, there's jedi in this thread.

I just went back to my family today. We're going to do a little trip at the beginning of the next week, but other than that there are no plans for anything.

I need to return a 700-word paper on October 21 and I haven't started working on it yet, so I need to write it during this vacation... Fuck.

There are 4 topics to choose from, each one related to American literature. The length is pretty huge for me, because I'm just a uni newbie :lol

It's about 1.5 A4, can't be that bad, can it? :P My first paper this year was 2802 words :P

wasteland

We don't have to write papers, but once I went as far as to write 14941 words for a relation.

My advice, choose a topic carefully, study it, then come up with the structure of the paper before even writing a word of it. You can change it as you write of course, but I wouldn't advice eve starting a paper without knowing where you're going to.

Like GRR Martin often says when asked if he knows how his saga is going to end, "I know I'm leaving Chicago for Los Angeles, but I'm not completely sure yet if I'll visit Denver or Salt Lake City of both."
