New Home - 2007-04-15
The Dream Theater Frequently Asked Questions has found a new home at DTNorway.com, where the fanclub staff will be making sure that the information is kept current and valid. This also sees a small redesign of the color-scheme.

The DTFAQ has not been updated for many years now.
How about us as a community take this as a project to bring it to up-to-date galore? Fresh design, updated pages, updates information about albums and album songs?

Any interest?
There has got to be better use for our time than bickering on the band's musical and artistic decisions. ;)

If someone wants to do so, great.  Better yet, since we have so much traffic here, it would be great to have it here.  If you or someone else wants to take on the task of getting it started, let me know and we can talk specifics.

This could be fun to work on. I loved reading all the FAQs

You know, you could just ask me and I'd let you get your hands dirty on it...

The main reason why it's not been updated is basically because wiki-type sites have taken over. There's obviously wikipedia, but there's also https://dreamtheater.wikia.com/ which is a quite good source.

The amount of work involved in constantly updating a faq is actually a lot, and while some people find it fun initially, the drive quickly disappears. I've had plenty of people expressing interest in helping keeping the faq updated, but when push comes to shove ...

FatalDreams

Nothing personal noxon. :)
I also didn't know who to address this to...

And indeed, due to the very same issue as you wrote in your post, I have opted to make this a community effort rather than a one-person job so that, as you say, if one person is down, another picks up. Like the borg.

I have no problem in giving a long-run push and update as much as I can and hopefully more will want to join and update more areas in the website.

I'm available at:
- idan@adar.me
- webmaster@dreamtheater.co.il

What say you?

noxon

I'll be looking into converting the faq to a wiki site, but right now the issue is that there's a lot of good information and discussion in the comments that should carry over as well, and wiki isn't the best solution for that - i need to find a wiki engine or plugin that allows for comments as well...

FatalDreams

I would actually hate it if the format of the website will change. Wikis tend to be "cold and "apersonal" to me, and dreamtheater.wikia.com is a great example of that.
The current design is good and will be even better with some tweaks most likley.

Maybe if you change the engine, but keep the presentation intact and only enhance it somewhat.

Some updating can be done irregardless to the comments (which are mostly about the interpretation of songs, and that's just as imported to bring back to the fold).
General updating of content can be done until a new site engine is implemented.

noxon

How would you propose to do it community based if it's not going to be a wiki engine (or similar) - the engine itself doesn't have to drive the design after all - i could probably emulate the design of a wiki to look and feel like the current faq.

FatalDreams

If you can use a wiki engine and keep the layout as matching as possible to the current layout then by all means - go for it!
There could be edit links next to each section to bring up a wiki edit page or some such I guess. That would work great.

FatalDreams

Work on this has commenced. If you find something then feel free to write-up about it in this thread and we'll get to update the website.

Used samples in songs in ADTOE, BCSL, Octavarium. Does anyone know their origin?
