In my youtube channel you can find songs modified by me, cutting parts I judge unnecessary. Take them as experiments I made just for fun, all my respect for the original songs :)

Not sure you're allowed to post something like this, but cool. I do that too, with certain songs. Like cutting out all the samples in Space-Dye Vest.

This kind of thing walks a VERY fine line because you are taking officially released content and posting it online, but you are posting it in an altered state that you created.  I'll leave it up for now, but I may end up deleting the thread if it becomes a problem or if the band makes it clear they do not want this kind of thing posted.

I'll trust the band's judgment over yours.

Yeah, same here.  After hearing the full versions of everything, edits never sound right.  Even when the band did it on the Greatest Hits release, I didn't like it much, but I understood why due to time constraints.  Even the video edit for PMU kinda leaves you hangin' but there was a good reason for that too.  I really don't see the benefit of this particular thread.

Other than pissing me off for cutting out the Blind Faith organ solo.   :\

He clearly edited them for his personal tastes. There's nothing wrong with that. Some people like hearing different arrangements of songs, so I don't see a problem with this thread being around, like bosk said, as long as there are no issues with the band and the labels.

black_biff_stadler

I agree. Some folks are coming off borderline jerky with how smug their tone is.

Zook

Can't see why it's a problem that he show off his work. I like to edit songs too. What's the problem? I don't agree with his choices, but I have no issues with him posting it.

YtseJamittaja

I have done that too like 5 years ago. It was fun to arrange songs again. Unfortunately I lost those files when my last computer broke..

I never said there was anything wrong with that.  I merely stated my opinion that I don't see the benefit of posting it here.  Simple as that.

I guess this phrase rubbed me the wrong way.

I think we can all agree that ROOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRR is unnecessary. :P

Daso

I remember I did this with Home. Cutted the majority of the "silent", acoustic guitar part of the intro, the moaning and so on part (so LaBrie's chorus lead straight into Rudess's solo, I loved it) and a part of the ending. Sadly I lost that edit years ago, I have no clue where it is  :-[

Look at all us freaks cluttering your city streets
Still scalping their ticket-less applause
Spun monkeys on the railroad track, take me to the caine field; I walk along pick my spiderbite
Basically Kyoko Kirigiri

I basically JUST posted this in another thread, haha! I've always felt that that moment (14:14) would have been the perfect place to finish the song; it would have finished with such a bang, and the listeners would be saved from having to endure that redundant final section (which isn't even an enjoyable piece of music to begin with).

I disagree. The outro is great. That's not to say it couldn't be trimmed a bit, but I love the big continuum leads that kick in right at that point. So delightfully evil.

Phoenix87x

Interesting to hear those edits.

Quite a while back I tried to edit down A nightmare to remember, unsuccessfully since it came out too jumbled, but I did edit TCOT removing the entire middle "smoking on his pipe", "rare vintage" section and that turned out pretty well.

Huh?  That ending would have been very anti-climatic.  The way it ended was fine.
