I enjoyed this interview, as I enjoyed all Mike Mangini interviews! It's been a while since the last one. I missed his dorkiness. :lol

I can't help having this ridiculous, stupid smile on my face while watching this video. The man is so passionate about what he does, it's amazing. Something I love about Mike, besides how friendly and humble he is, is the fact he loves to talk about everything he or they are doing. Ask Mike Mangini a question and you won't get this almost robotic, pre-composed answer. You'll get a flood of emotions and passionate, often lengthy explanations. You can really tell that he truly wants you fully understand whatever he's talking about and if he has to go on for two minutes in order to give you the full picture and "set you up" for the answer before answering the actual question, he'll do just that.

Mangini is such an adorable little chipmunk! Love that guy!

Btw, good job with the podcast DTNorway! (from a fellow norwegian)

wasteland

He seriously is one of the most lovely and lovable guys I have ever seen in flesh or on screen.  :heart

Also, excitement for the new album!

Started watching this, then I saw that it was 23 minutes long and so I just didn't feel like it. Anything on the new album we hadn't heard before?

Dreamer81

a really loveable person, so full of passion..and the bit about pattern prediction is really amazing!!

Ad134

It's really funny when you find out that he is EXACTLY as hyper as he seemed in his audition. He absolutely loves everything about what's going on right now, and it shows. Every interview from him is so much fun.

Yeah exactly. This kind of excitement is amazing, i imagine it is contagious and the whole band has probably improved because of that.

I chuckled. It's clear that he was actually quoting something James said.

Great interview. I agree about his enthusiasm and energy, it really shows how happy he is to be in this band.

Totally.  As an example:  Last time I saw them, my wife and I were trying to grab a picture with some of the guys after the show, and Mike goes, "oh, yeah, yeah, cool," but then he got distracted by another fan he was talking to.  We waited a few seconds, and it looked like he was still going to be talking for awhile, so we just posed with Jordan.  Just as the guy who was taking the picture is about to snap it, Mike looks over and sees that he is about to miss the shot, and he literally leaps through the air and lands in the middle of the picture just as it was about to be taken.  I'm sure it was just in my own head, but I think I even heard that cartoon "byoing-oing-oing!" sound as he jumped.  :lol

^Awesome! :lol

Nice intie, it's always a pleasure to hear MM speaking :)

I love the Mangini interviews. He's got such a great personality. It's hard not to like him.

Kotowboy

Mangini's personality and ability more than make up for the aspects of his playing that i'm not keen on.

And three www.dreamtheaterforums.org shirts.  Can you spot them all?

One you are wearing, the other is on the red guy's shoulder and the last one is about to be signed by James? :D

Yup.  Except that I don't think James is about to sign it.  The only other people in the room besides me and the guy in red (Yeshua4) that had those shirts were John Petrucci and his guitar tech, and I'm guessing neither of them needed to get James' autograph.  :lol

He's a joy, isn't he?

Properly, fantastically bonkers. Not just "oh, he's quite effusive and sometimes does a joke," but in the sense that he's really quite explosively emotive, all the time. Like there's no off switch. So cool, though. Each answer's this huge tide of words. Thoughts crashing everywhere, all across each other, each triggering the next and washing up wherever. Cracking interviewee. Loved it.

That's a VERY good description, actually.

A bit like what Russell Brand PRETENDS to do - except that with Mangini - it's NOT a completely transparent act.

The guy with the Dream Theater t-shirt.. What album is that?
