How can someone be the drummer of the year when they released no recorded material that year?

This reminds me of when Eddie Van Halen used to win guitarist of the year every year back in the day, even in the years where VH did nothing.

I think it's still legit as long as they're active in that year, so I'd include touring there too personally. If they didn't release anything, or play live at all, then yeah, it kind of defeats the purpose of the "of the year" thing.
